An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Registered nurse with excellent leadership skills to join the Ward 10 team as Deputy Ward Manager.

Ward 10 is currently a 22 bedded Orthopaedic unit providing care for both Acute trauma admissions and also for patients with Orthopaedic issues or those who have undergone recent orthopaedic procedures. The team is a developing team that requires strong visible leadership. We need a positive and motivated individual to help support and guide the team to deliver high quality patient care.

The successful candidate will be supported to further develop their leadership and management skills. They will be expected to rotate between days, nights and weekend shifts to help deliver a safe and effective service.

Main duties of the job

Ward 10 is a busy and demanding Orthopaedic ward.

This role needs someone who can contribute to a positive team culture and drive forward quality improvement. They must be a forward-thinking individual who can assist in managing, leading and supporting the ward team and wider division to deliver high standards of patient care.

As Deputy Ward Manager on Ward 10 will need at least 2 years nursing experience. Orthopaedic experience is desirable but not essential. You must be motivated, resilient, calm under pressure and be able to deliver a range of clinical skills.

A significant part of this role will be working as the ward coordinator, and this will require having knowledge about the acuity and demands of all aspects of the ward. You will need to liaise with various members of the multidisciplinary team in order to support the team to deliver effective patient care. This requires excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships.

You will also be expected to participate in staff development, attendance management and promoting staff well being.

Person Specification

Qualifications, Specific Experience & Training

Essential

  • 1st Level Registered Nurse (relevant to area of work)
  • Relevant diploma / degree or due for completion within 12 months
  • Minimum of three years post-registration experience of which two years should be at Primary Nurse/acute trust or equivalent


Desirable

  • Management qualification
  • Recognised teaching qualification


Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Relevant Clinical knowledge/experience of the speciality

  • Student nurse assessor
  • Evidence of ability to act as a preceptor/mentor to new staff
