We have an exciting opportunity to expand our Diabetes Team and are seeking to recruit a senior midwife (Band 6) with an interest in Diabetes. This post will be 0.6WTE but we can offer 1 WTE with the candidate working 0.4WTE within the Maternity Unit.
As the post holder you will provide direct maternity care to these women in conjunction with the Diabetes consultant and multidisciplinary teams (MDT). Working collaboratively with the individual woman you will assess, plan, implement and coordinate their maternity care pathway.
Findings from the Care Quality Commission's National Maternity Survey 2021 have recently been released, placing Kingston Hospital's maternity service as the top performing maternity service in London.
The current ratio of midwives to women is 1:24 enabling high quality midwifery focused care to be provided. Current services include an effective alongside Midwifery Led Unit (19.5% of births) a growing Home Birth service (approx. 5% of births) and specialist clinics (Fetal Medicine, Pre-term Surveillance, Multiple Birth, Diabetes, and Specialist Midwives services). There are also valuable opportunities to continue self-development rotating to Antenatal Clinic, Day Assessment Unit, Community or an opportunity to join one of our Continuity of Carer Teams. We wish to nurture aspiring clinical experts and leaders by providing these development opportunities.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the Diabetes team the post holder will be responsible for providing midwifery care to pregnant women with diabetes. As the post holder you will provide direct maternity care to these women in conjunction with the Diabetes consultant and multidisciplinary teams (MDT). Working collaboratively with the individual woman you will assess, plan, implement and coordinate their maternity care pathway.
Working collaboratively with the other team members you will assist the on-going development of Diabetes care pathways and frameworks, in line with national policies.
You will be accountable for the overall provision of excellent care, providing evidence based, woman-centred midwifery to women in the outpatient, inpatient and community settings.
In the absence of a Band 7 Team Leader, lead the team and manage the workload either in the community or in the unit.
Interviews will take place on 6th December 2023.
About us
Kingston Maternity Services remain committed to implementing the recommendations of The National Maternity Review- Better Births: Improving outcomes of maternity services inEngland. Continuity of Carer remains an important evidence-based way of improving outcomes and experience for women and birthing people using our services. We are continuing to role out continuity of carer models by implementing 10 geographical community-based teams. We currently have 35% of women booked on Continuity of Carer pathways and aim for this to increase in the next year. Each team will provide an integrated model of continuity achieved through midwives working both in the hospital and community settings. This will enable midwives to be highly skilled in all areas of midwifery practice. Full orientation and support will be provided, and midwives will work the majority of their time in the hospital setting with some supported community shifts.
Kingston is proud of its strong multi-disciplinary (MDT) culture. We provide a well evaluated, in-house MDT programme and staff have the opportunity to attend external study days or enrol for academic modules at our local higher education institutes.
Kingston Hospital has five key values and we want to employ and work with people who share these values and demonstrate behaviours that support them.
- Caring - Safe - Responsible - Value Each Other - Inspiring
