An exciting opportunity has arisen to work as a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist as part of the Gateshead Children's Speech and Language Therapy Community Team . We have sessional opportunities available to work with children in mainstream settings who have additional needs and to work with a full range of SLCNs within a Community Clinic setting. We welcome therapists with experience of a wide range of SLCNs a who enjoy working as part of a team alongside our health and education colleagues.
We work from a central base, allowing regular contact with other SLTs. The service is friendly and supportive, encourages opportunities for continuing professional development and holds regular team/service meetings. Regular individual and group supervision is provided and individuals are offered yearly Appraisals
Both part time and full time working will be considered.

- To liaise with and advise parents, School and Nursery staff and other Agencies/Professionals involved with children on the mainstream special needs caseload.
- To work with Educational staff and parents/guardians to integrate Speech and Language Therapy targets into all areas of a child's learning.

- To work as a specialist practitioner within a multi-disciplinary team of an integrated workforce that is based in the community to meet the health needs of children in Gateshead

- Degree or equivalent in Speech & Language Therapy
- Professional registration HCPC
- Completion of newly qualified practitioner competencies.
- Evidence of post graduate training/CPD in primary age and/or secondary age SLCN incl. cognitive neurological difficulties, neurodiversity
- Extensive experience of working with mainstream children with specific SLCNs associated with cognitive neurological difficulties, neurodiversity
- Experience of working within mainstream schools.
- Experience of collaborative target setting in a school environment
- An understanding of the principles of clinical governance and NHS Policy Issues
- Ability to cope with and diffuse difficult and stressful situations
- Experience of involvement in service developments
- Experience of planning, coordinating and supervising the work of others
- Experience of multi-disciplinary and inter/agency working
- Experience of evaluating the training needs of school staff/carers & implementing training programmes.
- Well-developed specialist skills e.g. undertaking comprehensive assessment, making and receiving referrals, requesting and acting upon diagnostic tests
- Evidence of well-developed clinical reasoning including ability to reflect upon own performance and partake and lead in clinical supervision
- Experience of communicating delicate, complex and sensitive information.
