The post holder will be required to recruit, screen and oversee clinical assessments of both Parkinson's and Multiple Sclerosis patients participating in the clinical trials. The post holder will be expected to lead the clinical aspects of the study and perform and/or oversee the scheduled study visits and sampling for the entire study duration. The post holder will be supported by a Lead Research Nurse, a Nurse Team Leader, research nurses as well as neurology consultants. . The post holder should be competent in performing general physical and neurological examination, and have a reasonable understanding of Parkinson's and Multiple Sclerosis disease. The ability to perform lumbar punctures unsupervised would be a bonus. The post holder shall also be provided with training as appropriate for a particular study but will also need to be well organised, show attention to detail, and function in a dynamic team environment as well as develop strong working relationships with the study investigators, the commercial CRO and the industrial sponsor.

Main duties of the job

Working alongside the consultants, nursing staff, technicians and academics, the post holder will:
  • Help with participant screening and recruitment
  • Consent patients
  • Monitor, report and review for serious adverse events and patient safety
  • Perform physical and neurological examinations on patients
  • Lead the clinical aspects of the study and oversee scheduled study visits
  • Uphold Good Clinical Practice principles
  • Liaise with clinical teams, promoting research and its integration across the Trust

Person Specification

Education

Essential

  • MBBS or equivalent with full valid GMC Registration and hold a licence to practise
  • Postgraduate specialist qualification e.g. MRCP or equivalent


Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in Neurorological medicine inclusive of MS, Parksinsons Disease, Acute Dementia


Desirable

  • Experience of audit


Skills and Abilities

Essential

  • oPhysical examination
  • oECG, chest X ray, other radiology interpretation, biochemistry, haematology results interpretation
  • oVenepuncture, IV lines
  • oAbility to learn and implement new study related clinical skills
