We are looking for a compassionate practitioner, with a good understanding of safeguarding populations at risk of harm and multi-agency working, who is keen to develop their knowledge and skills in this area of practice.You should have a good understanding of safeguarding and be able to demonstrate relevant knowledge and skills.The post will include the provision of specialist safeguarding advice, support and supervision on safeguarding matters to front line staff across the organisation.The post will also include practice development and prevention of the wider harms agenda.In return, we will offer you an insight to working within a specialist corporate function and support you through clinical and safeguarding supervision and training, to support your personal and professional development.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the Associate Director of Nursing for Safeguarding and the Safeguarding Matron in actively promoting the role of the Safeguarding Practitioner for Adults and Children.To be the first point of contact for any safeguarding issue when Trust staff or external partners seek support, advice or guidance. Review and appropriately refer any allegation / disclosure of abuse and actively participate in all multi agency strategy and professional's meetings, ensuring relevant actions are appropriately implemented and monitored.Collect and share relevant health information in accordance with multi-agency protection processes including Section 47 Children Act or Section 42 Care Act enquiries and ensure actions relevant to the Trust are implemented and monitored.Contribute to and participate in any relevant Serious Case Review / Safeguarding Adult Review and Domestic Homicide Review and ensure actions relevant to the Trust are implemented and monitored.To provide specialist support, advice and guidance, in context to relevant legislation i.e. Mental Capacity Act 2005 (Including the MCA Amendment Act 2019), Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (2009)/Liberty Protection Safeguards, Care Act 2014, Children Act 1989, policy and procedures to patients and clinicians in relation to the care and safeguarding of adults and children at risk of abuse.

Job responsibilities

Contribute to educational sessions to all staff groups, liaising with other agencies and users in order to gain their participation in the delivery of relevant education.Effectively deal with complaints, debrief relevant staff and identify improvements following an incident and amend and distribute training accordingly through lessons learnt. Be a highly competent and knowledgeable practitioner within the speciality of Safeguarding.Ensure full and complete clinical records are maintained in accordance with Trust procedures and Royal Collages Standards (NMC/HCPC etc)Store all confidential information securely in line with Trust policy and procedures.....

Qualifications

Essential

  • Relevant degree / equivalent
  • Evidence of continued professional development


Experience

Essential

  • Understanding of the wider safeguarding clinical risk and quality issues
  • Demonstrable experience of working within the framework of the Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards
  • Strong communication & negotiation skills
  • Developing and delivery of training packages to all staff groups
  • Ability to work as an autonomous practitioner and as part of a team


Desirable

  • Participation in audit and research


Knowledge

Essential

  • Confident and influential in promoting the safeguarding agenda and working with various internal and external groups and agencies
  • Has a good understanding of Safeguarding legislation including the Care Act 2014 the Children Act 1989/2004, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards 2009


Skills

Essential

  • Able to competently assess mental capacity and act as a decision maker in accordance with the Mental Capacity Act
  • Ability to problem solve, prioritise and initiate change
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to deal with complex and challenging situations
  • Computer literate - basic IT skills in word processing and spread sheets
