This is a great opportunity to join our diverse and dynamic teams. We have 19 theatres in two departments where you can gain a wide variety of experience. The John Radcliffe Main Operating Theatre Department has five theatres where routine and emergency surgery takes place. Specialties include vascular, emergencies, general, gynae, trauma orthopaedics and spinal surgery. The unit provides care mainly for adult patients and is the theatre suite for Major Trauma. The West Wing Operating Theatre Department has 14 theatres and provides specialist surgery for adults and children. Specialties include E.N.T., Ophthalmology, Neurology, Children's (Orthopaedics & General), Plastics and Max Fax's surgery.
We have a dedicated Education team in place with a comprehensive education strategy, to underpin the development of all grades of staff within theatres, facilitating career development and progression. We provide a supportive learning for staff working solo, an in-house perioperative course, support with revalidation, leadership and career development. Experienced staff are encouraged and supported to further develop using the educational and experiential learning opportunities available.
Main duties of the job
You will deliver clinical skills and knowledge in collaboration with educational plans, to ensure on-going clinical competency validation alongside statutory and mandatory training of clinical staff. The role will focus on improving quality and efficiency in clinical care, through education, to enhance positive patient care outcomes. In addition to delivering classroom based education, there is an expectation that the successful candidate will work with clinical staff in the operating theatre department to ensure that competency assessments are carried out in a timely manner to improve patient care. A key role will be supporting and facilitating placements for a variety of healthcare students and their supervisors/assessors in co-operation with Oxford Brookes University and Bucks New University. Experience of teaching, supervising and assessing healthcare students in the practice setting and excellent communication skills are essential for this role.
