An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 staff nurse on SCBU covering maternity leave to join our Special Care Baby Unit at the Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

The SCBU is an 11 bedded unit with one stabilisation space. We have nine special care cots and two high dependency cots. We are part of the north wales neonatal network, working in partnership across the three units. We pride ourselves on being a friendly team working to provide high standard family centred care for our patients and families.

Main duties of the job

As a Band 5 registered nurse, you will carry out clinical practice ensuring high quality and current evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, implementation, interventions and evaluations for patients is provided from admission through to discharge. Working as partners in care at all times with the parents and families to provide family centred care.

We have great education and development opportunities, thanks to our close links with our local universities, along with induction and orientation. You will be supported and will gain the opportunity to enhance your skills through continuing professional development. It is a requirement of the role on SCBU that you need to complete the Neonatal QIS course, and will be supported with this.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Experience

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Good communication skills and be able to present factual information.
  • Flexibility to work shifts according to service needs, both day and night duty.


Knowledge

Desirable

  • RN Child Branch
  • Knowledge of Clinical Governance issues.
  • Basic knowledge of the physiology of the neonate/child and its relation to illness in the neonatal period.
