We are looking for a Nurse to provide specialist support to the Endocrine Service at Bedford Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical expertise for patients with acute and chronic endocrine conditions. An essential element to the role is the ability to provide education, at a level accessible to the individual and their family with endocrine conditions. They will provide Nurse led Thyroid monitoring clinics, and will display excellent organisational and communication skills. They should have the ability to work collaboratively with integrated care partners as a member of a team, as well as autonomously. If necessary, training into the post will be given to any candidate that may wish to develop into the role.
Main duties of the job
To run nurse - led thyroid monitoring clinic, adrenal clinic and patient education clinic under the supervision of the endocrine consultant or following trust approved protocols. Facilitate dose changes and treatment decisions from the endocrinology consultants. To perform and oversee some dynamic function tests following trust approved Protocols and if clinically appropriate to inform patients about the results. Provide specialist advice and clinical support regarding all aspects of the diagnostic process to patients, relatives / carers and healthcare professionals in order to facilitate informed consent and comply with professional and national guidelines i.e.: risks, endocrine tests and therapeutic interventions. Communicates with a range other nursing staff, acting as a specialist resource. Visiting patients on the wards to act as an advocate if needing specialist support To coordinate the results of all investigations and facilitate rapid clinical decisions
