We are delighted to advertise this unique opportunity for an experienced PractitionerPsychologist to work in the Welsh Centre for Burns and Plastic Surgery based atMorriston Hospital. The successful candidate will work within the adult plastic surgeryservice and will be part of a well established and growing team of psychologistsproviding input into the Burns and Plastic Surgery Specialty led by a ConsultantClinical Psychologist.The Adult Plastic Surgery service has a multi-disciplinary team approach and includesPhysiotherapists, Occupational Therapist, Specialist Nurses and PlasticSurgeons. They support people who need reconstruction work following trauma,cancer, infections or birth defects. The centre also carries out hand and nervesurgery.The team are very keen to receive psychological support in helping individuals,families and staff to cope in a trauma informed way. A diverse range of psychologicalneeds affect people in receipt of the service from their initial reactions to trauma andthe challenges of undergoing surgical interventions and rehabilitation to the longerterm psychological issues such as grieving for loss, potential body image issues andfunctional impairment
Main duties of the job
The service provides input to a diverse cohort of people who are also often copingwith other physical health issues or complications after traumatic accident.It is envisioned that the psychologist will engage in direct clinical work through theclinical cycle with patients and their families whilst being mindful of their ownwellbeing needs in the process.The postholder will also support colleagues to provide care through apsychologically and trauma informed lens through consultation, supervision andteaching/training ensuring there is a shared psychological understanding of theclient's needs throughout the care pathway.One of the primary aims of the position will also be to scope psychological need ofthis client group and enable further service development to accommodate that need.The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post English and/or Welsh speakersare equally welcome to apply.
