Staff Nurse, Children and Young People's Ward, Band 6, West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven. - 72 hours available -

Be responsible for the assessing, planning, delivery and evaluation of high standards of nursing care to children, young people and their families. Take responsibility for the coordination of the ward activity including management tasks to be undertaken in the absence of the Ward Manager to maintain patient safety at all times. Contribute as requested by the Ward Manager to the operational and strategic management of the unit. Actively participate in the development and implementation of quality initiatives.

Disclosure and Barring Service:

On 28 November 2020, the new Disclosure and Barring Service filtering rules will come into effect.

The changes mean that:

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: �18 + Administration cost of �3.85 = �21.85. Deducted at �6.85 from 1st month salary and �5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: �38 + administration cost of �3.90 = �41.90. Deducted at �11.90 from 1st month salary and �10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse (child) with RSCN or equivalent.
  • ENB 998 / NST 307 or equivalent.
  • Further relevant development to postgraduate certificate or equivalent.
  • Safeguarding training level 3.
  • PILS course


Desirable

  • Further relevant development to postgraduate diploma or equivalent.
  • EPLS course


Experience

Essential

  • Current relevant acute child health nursing.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ward management experience
  • Preceptor / mentor for student nurses and junior staff.


Desirable

  • Nursing children with special needs.


Knowledge

Essential

  • Continuing professional development, with portfolio.
  • Current child health agenda
  • Equality legislation and best practice


Skills

Essential

  • Leadership skills.
