Full-Time - 37.5 Hours Per Week

A unique opportunity for a Band 6, or experienced Band 5 (CPN/LD Nurse/Social Worker/OT) looking to progress, to work as a Trauma-Informed Mental Health Practitioner. We are particularly interested in applications from those with experience working with neuro-diverse young people.

The role is based within the CAMHS team embedded within Adel Beck Secure Childrens Home, home to up to 24 young people, either remanded or sentenced, or placed under S.25 of the Childrens Act, 1989. You will be expected to work alongside care and education professionals as part of the team around the child, to promote and embed trauma informed ways of working, and influence external professionals in seeking appropriate transition packages for young people.

You will also work with the MDT to assess all children entering Adel Beck to identify needs and deliver further assessment and intervention as required.

Main duties of the job

You will be aligned to one of the house units (8 residents) within Adel Beck. You will be responsible for screening assessment, risk assessment and management and care planning, as well as the delivery of interventions to young people open to the CAMHS team. This includes supporting colleagues to recognise mental health needs, completing specialist assessment and intervention and assessment of mental health presentation.

Maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying clinical duties.

Championing and leading on trauma-informed care across the secure childrens home.

Contribute to clinical MDT meetings and wider forums regarding the care needs of young people.

Engage with clinical and management supervision.

Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure timely transition planning, promoting the continuation of trauma-informed, formulation led care.

Work as part of the CAMHS first on-call rota.

Job responsibilities

• Provide assessment and treatment to children and young people with mental health needs.
• Work autonomously and collaboratively within the MDT, providing consultation for other agencies/professionals.
• Work as part of CAMHS first on-call rota.
• Promote the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.

To provide routine and urgent assessment and interventions to young people with a wide range of emotional and psychological problems who are referred to specialist CAMHS, in keeping with evidence based practice with supervision from a senior clinician within professional guidelines and within the overall framework of the teams policies and procedures.

Key Result Areas:

To support the ongoing process of delivering a comprehensive CAMHS system.

To provide assessment, interventions, therapy to children, young people with the most severe, complex and persistent mental health problems, including those who are severely mentally ill or at suicidal risk and where appropriate, families as both an autonomous practitioner and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a variety of settings to address need. This will include working with the CAPA model.

To apply a sound knowledge of safeguarding children and guidelines in clinical work.

To be committed to a quality approach for patient care.

The post-holder will demonstrate high levels of concentration and provide sustained effort in assessment of complex family issues.

To manage own caseload, accessing support and guidance appropriate to individual need.

To operate within the clinical and case management supervision framework.

To provide training, consultation and supervision to other service providers, partner agencies and junior members of staff as required regarding intensive interventions with children, young people and families.

To participate in the development, audit and review of this extension to existing service provision.

To work as part of the CAMHS on call rota when required and to work in a flexible manner (24/7).

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

• Relevant professional qualification, e.g. Mental health or Learning disability nursing
• Membership of professional body

Desirable

• Post Registration qualification, e.g. degree
• Post graduate qualification in mental health, (e.g. CBT, Family Therapy, Counselling)
• A teaching and assessing qualification

Experience

Essential

• Substantial post qualification experience, some of which must be working with Children, young people and their carers in a mental health or other complex care setting
• Multidisciplinary team working
• Inter-agency liaison and consultation
• Experience of supervising/mentoring junior staff
• Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance, e.g. NHS plan, Mental Health Legislation, Childrens act, Education Act, Working Together, Childrens NSF, Every Child Matters, etc
