The departments is looking for a junior clinical research fellow to help support the surgery service at University Hospital Southampton NHS FT . The role is split 50/50 between clinical and research, in prior agreement with your academic supervisor and the clinical service. Where equivalent qualifications or experience are being offered, it is essential that candidates should provide confirmation of this from the relevant College or Faculty in the United Kingdom.

Communication skills training and teaching experience are desirable and the post holder must have excellent IT skills. Working well within teams is important but also the ability to work independently and autonomously is vital.

Job responsibilities

WHAT YOULL DO

The departments are looking for a junior clinical research fellow to help support the surgery service at University Hospital southampton NHS FT. The role is split 50/50 between clinical and research, in prior agreement with your academic supervisor and the clinical service

The research element of the post will be analysis of database, leading to a publication, or working towards a PhD if the candidate wishes.

Duties of the fellow entail supervision of patients in collaboration with other colleagues. There is also a teaching commitment to undergraduate medical students and nurses.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
  • Full registration with the GMC/eligible for registration
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCS or equivalent
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion in a range of emergency problems within the speciality.
  • Ability to take responsibility for the emergency care of patients.
  • A wide range of clinical skills and practice in the speciality
  • Documented audit experience
  • Minimum of six months experience in NHS / Surgery
  • Must be competent in undertaking on-calls at middle grade level.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Appointment will be made under local contractual terms and conditions of service for Trust appointed (non-training fellow doctors and dentists).

Successful candidates will have an educational framework equivalent to training grade doctors, and there will be a named educational supervisor assigned at the start of the post. The opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD) is highly supported and encouraged by the Trust, with options available to take study leave. All licensed doctors must meet the GMC requirements for revalidation and there will be an annual appraisal to support this process.

Grades for Trust appointed (non-training) fellows will be paid a basic salary at a nodal pay point linked to the grade, at the rate set out in the National Medical and Dental pay circular. Basic salary detailed below plus any additional remuneration (as applicable) for hours set out in the doctors work schedule (e.g. additional hours, weekend allowance, and any hours which attract enhanced pay).

Basic Salary - MT03 �43,923

Please note that GMC registration (with a licence to practice) and right to work in the UK are essential for this role. Successful applicants will already have GMC registration or will be able to demonstrate they are eligible. Applicants requiring Tier 2 sponsorship should ensure they meet the Home Office application criteria prior to submitting an application.
