An exciting opportunity has arisen for suitably qualified individuals to apply for the role of Macmillan Unit Manager for the Chemotherapy Day Unit based in the Tranwell Unit here at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead. We are seeking a highly experienced individual with strong leadership abilities, who is motivated, enthusiastic and passionate about ensuring the delivery of high-quality care to service users.

This busy role combines both clinical and operational leadership responsibilities, with the chemotherapy unit at GHNFT being a nurse-led service. The successful candidate will be expected to ensure the service is both safe and effective and supported by the use of evidence-based practice. Through role-modelling and well-developed leadership skills, the unit manager requires to ensure that all members of the chemotherapy team maintain the required skills, knowledge and competence to meet the requirements of this developing field of clinical practice. Working alongside the modern matron and service management team, the post holder will have a key role in future service development, including collaborating with our on-site Acute Oncology Service. Applications from candidates with previous experience in leadership roles and / or service improvement as well as a significant experience in oncology would be encouraged.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate excellent, well developed communication skills daily, to enable them to manage a range of communication scenarios with both service users and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
