Ward Manager, Day Surgery, Band 7, 30 hours per week. Secondment opportunity for 6 months

Candidates need to be flexible, enthusiastic and reliable- working independently and as part of a team.

The unit is predominantly nurse led with input from other members of the multi- disciplinary team in order to provide a high standard of care to patients both pre- operatively and post operatively. You will be in charge of a small team to oversee the admission process as well as the safe discharge planning of a group of patients each shift and be expected to access, plan, implement and evaluate their care needs.

As a unit we operate using 20 beds and are open seven days a week, currently working 12hour day shifts (07.30-20.00) with future plans to finish at 22.00hrs due to the advances in day case surgeries and patient care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for overseeing the smooth running of the unit whilst ensuring patient safety is the highest priority. They will liaise directly with all members of the MDT. The post will involve the supervision and mentoring of junior staff.

Standard Check: �18 + Administration cost of �3.85 = �21.85. Deducted at �6.85 from 1st month salary and �5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: �38 + administration cost of �3.90 = �41.90. Deducted at �11.90 from 1st month salary and �10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered nurse with current registration
  • NST307 or equivalent
  • Management / leadership certificate or equivalent.
  • Post registration certificate in clinical speciality or equivalent


Desirable

  • Postgraduate certificate in management or equivalent.
  • ALS provider.
  • Essential IT skills (EITS) or equivalent. Further relevant postgraduate development or equivalent.


Experience

Essential

  • Roster management.
  • Preceptor / mentor for student nurses.
  • Clinical supervision.
