Biomedical Scientist Band 6 Full Time - Fixed Term for 2 years until 2025
Are you interested in working in a clinical environment and performing laboratory work for clinical trials at Cambridge Biomedical Campus? An unusual and exciting opportunity has arisen for working in the clinical laboratory supporting clinical studies under the supervision of Laboratory Research Services.
The full-time post is funded for 2 years. As a member of Laboratory Research Services, you will be required to support and carry out clinical research work in various departments of Pathology. Part of the role includes maintaining equipment and training other members of staff including research teams. Ideal if you also enjoy maintaining very good records, writing standard operating procedures, andmanaging staff competency. Must be able to work to high standards and be able to follow and work using research study manuals. High level of organizational, communication and planning skills are essential. Previous research experience in preparing and managing sample storage according to regulations is highly desirable for this post.

Main duties of the job
- Processes research samples in department
- Provides specialist advice to clinicians as to appropriateness of tests and timescales
- Provides specialist service e.g. training, problem solving for specialist requirement
- Work independently and lead on specialist area as directed by Lead BMS
- Acts as mentor for more junior scientific and support staff
- To work flexibly in reflection of service needs this may include an extended working day or weekend by arrangement.
- Supervises and/or trains less experienced staff in own area of work
- The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, pus, urine, faeces, and respiratory secretions.
- Maintain and promote professional image of the CUH Trust.
- Where required, to lead and supervise a section of the laboratory.
