The Liverpool University NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT) was created in 2019, after successful merger of the Royal Liverpool and Aintree Hospitals. Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust wishes to appoint a Consultant Cross Sectional Diagnostic Radiologist (with an interest in MSK imaging).

The posts will be full time 10 PAs and will be joint site jobs at LUHFT.

The department offers a wide breadth of both diagnostic and interventional services.

On 1st October 2019, Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LUHFT) was created, through the merger of Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust. LUHFT is responsible for managing services at Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

Bringing together a combined workforce of over 12,000 staff, the Trust is the largest NHS employer in Merseyside and Cheshire. As well as providing general hospital services to the local population, the Trust provides a range of highly specialist services to more than two million people in the Northwest and beyond.

Main duties of the job

To provide a first class clinical service in Cross Sectional Radiology.

To provide a first-class clinical service in Musculoskeletal Radiology.

To provide a first-class clinical service in Diagnostic Radiology.

To supervise junior medical staff in Diagnostic and Musculoskeletal Radiology.

To provide radiological expertise in terms of advice for imaging and reporting.

To take part in the Radiology Audit, Governance, Consultant and Departmental Meetings.

To prepare for and lead on discussions in appropriate MDTMs.

To participate on the Diagnostic on call Consultant Radiology rota.

Teaching

Colleagues including Radiology Registrars and Radiographers

Undergraduate Medical and Dental students as part of their curriculum.

Trainee nurses, physicists, and pharmacists when opportunities arise.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • MB ChB (or equivalent)
  • MBBS (or equivalent)


Registration

Essential

  • Full registration with the GMC and licence to practise (or eligible for)
  • Eligible for specialist register in Radiology


Clinical Experience

Essential

  • CCT in Radiology (or equivalent training) or within 6 months of attaining one at time of interview
  • Subspecialty training in MSK Radiology
  • MSK Radiology Fellowship
  • Evidence of continuing medical education


Teaching & training experience

Desirable

  • Experience of teaching to medical and nursing staff and other disciplines


Clinical Governance experience

Essential

  • Understanding NHS management structures and the principles of Clinical Governance
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients


Management Experience

Desirable

  • Willingness to participate in management activities
  • Understanding of financial arrangements in the NHS
  • Ability to plan strategically and to exercise sound judgements when faced with conflicting pressures


Audit Experience

Essential

  • Thorough understanding of the principles of clinical audit
  • Publication of audit results


Research experience

Essential

  • Understanding principles of research
  • Proven track record in research
  • Publication of research


Desirable

  • Success in obtaining funding for research


IT skills

Essential

  • Ability to use Microsoft office packages, e.g. Word, Excel & PowerPoint
  • Ability to use patient information systems
