The pulmonary rehabilitation team are offering the opportunity for a band 6 part-time (2 days per week) permanent physiotherapy position. The specialist physiotherapist would work alongside the MDT to provide rehabilitation with a variety of lung conditions to include but not limited to COPD, pulmonary fibrosis, chronic asthma and bronchiectasis.

The service operates across the University Health Board including the three counties of Pembrokeshire, Ceredigion and Carmarthenshire. The post holder could be based either in Withybush or Bronglais hospital and mainly cover Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion. Pulmonary rehabilitation includes both class based exercise within community venues, education, assessments and home visits. We work closely with the national exercise referral scheme and are trying to develop links with 3rd sector activity providers to offer our service users further help after their rehabilitation course.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will form part of an existing team of physiotherapists responsible for the delivery of patient rehabilitation services within Hywel Dda University Health Board within their defined clinical area of clinical speciality. This will involve working in collaboration with inter and multi disciplinary teams (MDT) to deliver holistic care.

The post holder will be responsible for managing their own caseload which will involve self referrals as well as those from GP's, AHP's, Social Service practitioners and Consultants. They will operate as an autonomous professional with a high level of clinical and technical skill and expertise, using evidence base to plan, implement and evaluate the managementof clients.

The post holder will participate in the continuous professional development process, involving the education / supervising of junior staff and students.The post holder will play a key role in supporting service modernisation and development. This will include involvement in audit and service evaluation processes.

The post holder will be required to participate in the provision of a flexible 7 day service, based on service need. This will be on a rota basis. The post holder will be required to participate in the provision of the on call respiratory service.

This post is advertised as a Band 6, however applicants who do not currently hold all the necessary competencies to a Band 6 level are encouraged to apply and, if successful, will be appointed under Annex 21 rules whereby 70% of the top of Band 6 will be payable during the first 12 months, then 75% for 6 months until band 6 competencies have been completed. Applicants would be supported to develop their competencies required to fulfil the role within 12-18 months. Following successful completion and successful attainment of skills and competences for the role, the post holder will then be paid at band 6 (minimum point on the scale). As part of the Annex 21 process, there is no financial penalty to those who apply for this role where the percentage will cause a reduction in pay, subsequently a local protection would be put in place until the pay has caught up. Failure to achieve the competencies in the designated timeframe could result in re-deployment.
