An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Trainee Clinical Endoscopist (CE). this post will lead to a Band 8a CE once fully trained and independently taking your own Endoscopy lists. You will join our existing Nurse Endoscopist team at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals.

The successful candidate will undertake an intensive training programme with HEE, of which there are 2 intakes a year. The Health Education England (HEE) Clinical Endoscopist (CE) training programme provides a (30/40 week) clinically based and academically focussed learning programme to meet the outcomes of the JAG Endoscopy Training Scheme (JETS) and the Health Education England Competency Assessment Portfolio launched in 2015.

The role of CE provides the opportunity for an experienced and highly motivated individual to deliver a professional CE service. Working on our busy Endoscopy unit with 5 scope rooms, you will ensure endoscopy is delivered in line with best practice with an excellent patient experience at the heart of what we do. There will be opportunity to enhance and develop your knowledge and endoscopy skills with full support from the wider team. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals is now part of the Northwest Training Academy.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be expected, once training is completed, to deliver an endoscopic service carrying out gastroscopy, sigmoidoscopy and colonoscopy procedures to a JAG accredited standard. You must demonstrate specific skills in disorders of the GI tract, including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic techniques and subsequent management and follow up of your caseload.

The post holder will act as an excellent clinical role model and work to continuously improve clinical care standards in line with the clinical governance framework, assisting the Senior Sisters and Lead Nurse to coordinate aspects of audit in relation to both local and national criteria set for the development of Endoscopy Units including JAG and GRS requirements.

About us

We area busy JAG accredited Unit undertaking diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. This includes Colonoscopy, Sigmoidoscopy, Capsule Endoscopy, ERCP, Bronchoscopy, EBUS, EUS, and Enteroscopy. We also perform Therapeutic and Palliative stenting PEG, NJ insertion, In-patient endoscopy, GA Endoscopy and 24 hour 7 days a week GI Bleeds service. Through investment we will soon have 6 working endoscopy rooms that deliver to our patients. We will soon expand our in-session TNE capacity to a dedicated TNE service. We are a forward-thinking evolving service and due to a near complete refurbishment and expansion of service we are looking to recruit 3 more CE to our team. Education and Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Degree or relevant experience at band 6 or above
  • Post Registration qualification in a specialist area
  • Teaching & assessing qualification e.g. NST 307/ENB 998
