This is rare opportunity to work within the specialist adult services family team,.
The post is be embedded within the Gateshead Locality working across Early Interventions in Psychosis and the Adult Community Treatment Service. You will provide direct family interventions and systemic family therapy for service users, their families, and networks.
Main duties of the job
You will also offer clinical supervision to staff trained in family interventions and systemic family therapy. There are also opportunities to contribute to our accredited training programmes as both a course tutor and supervisor.
You will need to establish positive partnerships working across several different teams and services. The requires excellent clinical leadership skills. High levels of flexibility, creativity, and interpersonal skills.
We work in collaboration with psychological therapies colleagues to improve access to high quality evidenced based family and network-based therapies within secondary adult mental health services. There will be opportunities to contribute to this developmental work alongside the service Consultant Family Therapist and Clinical Lead.
You will receive operational, and clinical supervision as well as continuing professional development within the Family Therapy Service at the CNTW Centre for Specialist Psychological Therapies.
Due to the specialist nature of the service, applicants must be at Qualifying Level in Systemic Family Therapy and be eligible for registration with the UKCP. Family Interventions in Psychosis Training or a commitment to train in this approach is essential to the role. Training will be provided if this is required. The post-holder should also be an AFT Approved Supervisor or have a commitment to train as a supervisor.

- An Honours Degree in Psychology recognised for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society, or RMN, or equivalent degree level qualification in mental health
- Post-graduate qualifications in psychological assessment and psychological therapy (e.g. Doctorate in Counselling Psychology, Post-graduate diploma in CBT, IAPT High Intensity CBT diploma).
- HCPC registered practitioner psychologist or equivalent e.g. BABCP registered CBT or Member of an appropriate professional bodypractitioner.
Skills and Knowledge
Essential
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of one or more specialist psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups relevant to the community pathway, e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities.
- Substantial post qualification experience of specialist model specific psychological assessment, formulation and treatment of clients across a wide range of care settings.
- Demonstrate further specialist training and experience through having received a minimum of 50 hours clinical supervision of working as a psychological therapist over a minimum of 18 months or an alternative agreed by the Psychological Services Professional Lead.
- Experience of providing clinical supervision.
Desirable
- Experience of the application of psychological therapy in different cultural contexts.
- Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.
- Trainer in Clinical Supervision.
Skills and Competencies

- Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management.
- Specialist skills and competency in at least two evidence based psychological therapies relevant to the pathway.
- Knowledge of the theory and practice of one or more specialist psychological therapies in specific difficult to treat groups relevant to the community pathway, e.g. personality disorder, dual diagnosis, people with additional disabilities.
- Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinical sensitive information to clients, their family, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS.

- Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the relevant regulating or professional body.
