An exciting opportunity has arisen for band 6 Occupational therapist with acute medicine experience to join the Medicine therapy team at Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust. We are looking for an established band 6 or an experienced band 5 who are ready for the next challenge, and we are happy to consider a developmental role for the right candidate.
The succusseful candidate will have the opportunity to internally rotate every 3 months to specialised areas like Respiratory hub, Cardiology, Gastroentrology, Haematology and Care of the Elderly wards but also havwe the option to rotate to other areas like Stroke, T& O for more experience. With the move to our new Hospital, Midland Metropolitan Hospital we are excited to have state of the art therapy gym, cognitive therapy skill space and functional assessment units for our patients. The successful candidate will have great opportunites for service development projects, audits and be part of the advanced training and teaching as part of thier CPD within the Medicine therapy Team.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to be the lead specialist cardio-respiratory and Frailty wards/patients. You will be expected to be part of the 8am to 8pm Acute care model of working rota 7 days and have 1 weekend every 6-7 weeks. We will be happy to accomodate a fully flexible working pattern to work to promote a healthy work life balance.
Main duties of the job
Complete therapeutic assessment and treatment of medical patient in Cardiology, Gastroentrology, Respiratory and Care of the elderly wards.
Understanding and completing discharge planning for patient having therapy or social needs. Using the national guidlines for pathways
Completing access, site and home visit wheere neccessary. Also promoting the discharge to access model for patients.
Completing Moving and Handling plans for patients using various equipments like full hoist, cricket stand aid, Arjo Hoist, Roat stands etc.
Supervising junior members of staff and therapy support workers and also student for various West midlands Universities.
Contributing in in-service training and teaching with the team and the mider MDT.
