The Kent Oncology Centre (KOC) has two radiotherapy sites, one based at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and the other Kent and Canterbury Hospital.

The role will facilitate the seamless transition of patients between the pre-habilitation radiographers, CT/planning, brachytherapy and treatment. Including a clinical rotation in CT/planning, treatment and brachytherapy to ensure that the post holder fully understands the patient pathway. This new innovative role will enable career progression towards a Macmillan site specialist role.

The post holder will work as part of the Radiotherapy Pathway Navigation team to provide both clerical and clinical support to all teams within the radiotherapy pathway. Working within a multi-disciplinary team with close liaison with Clinicians, Physicists, Radiographers, Dosimetrists, Technicians, Nurses, CSWs and Clerical staff.

Main duties of the job

The main focus of this role encompasses reduction in the cancer waiting-list, thus facilitating more timely treatment and improved cancer access standards. The new innovative role will require liaison between cancer performance team and the radiotherapy service including brachytherapy, ensuring adherence to cancer targets. Staff will be required to attend Patient Target List (PTL) meetings, escalating issues to appropriate leads. Liaison across Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) to facilitate timely completion of patient related tasks and utilisation of resources. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating and sign-posting patient related queries during the entire patient radiotherapy pathway. This will include initiating pre-CT and treatment chats to minimise delays on the CT and treatment units, liaising with the appropriate teams where additional support or advise is required. A key aim of this role is to tailor the patient's pathway to facilitate personalised care.

This is a newly created post for a 2yr Fixed Term/Secondment contract with the possibility of becoming substantive after 2yrs
