Manchester Foundation Trust is seeking an experienced Principal MRI Radiographer for the North Manchester General site

The successful candidate should have significant experience in leading and developing an MRI service, teaching and training more junior staff and in service management.

You will be expected to undertake both clinical work, and manage the service within North Manchester across 1 static MR scanner and 1 remote relocatable CDC scanner.

Safety is of paramount importance and you will act as the MRI responsible person ensuring the highest safety standards at all times around the magnetic field. The successful applicant will also take a lead within the department for the safe administration of all contrast and medicines to patients, in line with the PGDs in place, and ensure all other staff within the department are doing the same.

Main duties of the job

Professional Leadership and Management

Act as lead radiographer for the MR imaging service at North Manchester General Hospital, seeking ways to develop the service. Provide expert support and leadership for the other senior radiographers and support staff working within the area.

Working collaboratively with the site lead, manage the day-to-day radiographic staffing levels within the departments, ensuring all areas have sufficient staff to provide the service.

Work closely with the Division of imaging modality lead for MRI, and other MR modality leads in the trust to ensure a consistent approach to all aspects of the service across the division to ensure optimum efficiency and effective and supportive management at all times.

In collaboration with the site leads, operations and waiting list managers, manage the demand and capacity for both OP and IP referrals. Ensure effective processes are in place to monitor the scheduling and prevention of cancellation of scans, initiating any action plans that will assist the service and meet corporate and government targets.

Lead on the training of all staff within MR, to ensure they are competent and supported in delivering a high-quality service. This includes managing the competency based clinical training program for all new MR radiographers, local induction for new starters, identifying training needs for existing staff, supporting regular CPD opportunities and ensuring mandatory training is completed annually.

Qualifications

Essential

  • BSc Diagnostic Radiographer
  • Interest in further study and CPD including research
  • HCPC registered


Desirable

  • Management Qualification
  • post graduate qualification in MR imaging


Experience

Essential

  • Highly experienced in a broad range of MRI techniques and to have co-ordinated the service in a senior capacity
  • Student/junior staff members supervision responsibilities
  • Ability to approach all situations with a 'can do' attitude
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Evidence of continuing Professional Development
  • Ability to give effective feedback to and liaise with a wide range of individuals


Desirable

  • Evidence of multi-modality knowledge
  • Understand recent developments in the NHS
  • Able to demonstrate leadership involvement in Quality improvement, transformation and innovation
  • Experience of line management of staff
