Are you a Pharmacy Technician looking for a rewarding and dynamic role where you can apply your knowledge, contribute to patient safety and be part of a multi-disciplinary team?

Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is looking for a Principal Pharmacy Technician. The role is a permanent full-time post, but substantial part-time and flexible hours will be considered. There are currently no weekend or bank holiday requirements.

As Principal Pharmacy Technician Mental Health, you will work across mental health and physical health inpatient teams to support medicines reconciliation, management of medication supply for in-patients and community patients and provide patient counselling. You will take a lead role in reviewing and implementing changes in the medicines management technical service provision at St Mary's Hospital working with the wider Pharmacy team to ensure a timely and effective service.

You will provide a link between the pharmacy team and the Community Mental Health Teams, and wards for all matters relating to Clozapine. You will support the provision of a locality-based Clozapine clinic service in partnership with community mental health teams.

Main duties of the job

o In conjunction with the other lead Pharmacy technician, to manage, develop and organise the NHFT elements of the pharmacy clozapine service.o To provide a locality-based Clozapine clinic service in partnership with community mental health teams in Northamptonshire to facilitate same day supply of medication.o To work with the provider service pharmacy staff to co-ordinate the supply of clozapine to both inpatients and outpatients across Northamptonshire.o To take a lead role in reviewing and implementing changes in the medicines management technical service provision to reflect current practice. o To manage technical staff based at St Mary's Hospital.o To provide a medicines management pharmacy service to allocated in-patient areas.o To work with the ward Pharmacists to identify newly admitted patients and complete the medicines reconciliation processo To liaise with the ward pharmacists and ward staff over any relevant medicines management issues to ensure concordance/compliance with prescribed medication, highlighting any discrepancies where identified.o To provide patient counselling.o To participate in department and Trust audit.o Support the use of the Trust electronic prescribing system.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered with GPhC as a pharmacy technician
  • NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services (or course equivalent )
  • Evidence of continuing CPD


Desirable

  • Previous use of SystmOne or electronic prescribing and medicines administration (EPMA) systems
  • Management qualification


Experience

Essential

  • Post Qualification experience in the NHS as a pharmacy techncian
  • Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience of participation in staff training


Desirable

  • Experience of managing staff
  • Experience in a mental health setting
  • Experience of supplying clozapine
