Main duties of the job
The post-holder will: Be responsible for the safe and effective operational management of the catheter lab recovery area. Ensure nursing is practised within the Clinical Governance Framework and create an environment in which excellence in care flourishes. Demonstrate effective leadership and staff management / development. Act as a clinical expert in the delivery of care within the cath lab areas to ensure that specialised needs of patients are met. Develop own nursing practice to an advanced level and support other senior nursing staff in developing new advanced skills and practice. Participate in the on-call rota and collaborate with the Cath lab clinical education lead to develop the competence of senior staff nurses to fulfil the necessary requirements. Lead the development of clinical policies, protocols and procedures in the Cath lab areas. Ensure that nursing practice is consistent with evidence based practice/clinical guidelines. Develop effective and robust communication systems within the cath lab Promote and maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients in line with the Trusts Risk Management Strategy and Policies.

The department comprises of 6 cardiac catheterization labs and there is currently a extensive programme of refurbishment within all cath labs and the recovery area. Our new recovery area will consist of 8 beds and is due to completed in November last year. Our catheter Labs and recovery area treat a multitude of cardiac conditions which are both elective and emergency admissions. We provide a 24 hour PPCI and out of hospital cardiac arrest service. There is a large and growing electrophysiology service which is one of the largest in the UK. We seek motivated and talented individuals to play a role in helping us to realise the benefits of this exciting development. Which in turn will bring benefits to patients and staff. LHCH is the largest single centre specialist cardiac unit in the UK. The trust provides tertiary cardiac and specialist thoracic services to a population of 2.8 million, serving Merseyside and Cheshire, west , north wales and the IOM. Recognized as a centre of excellence, LHCH has continued to invest in cardiology services ensuring we are leaders in our field. Liaise with nursing, medical and para-medical colleagues to ensure that all facets of the patients` care are covered. Ensure effective communication with relatives, community nursing staff, other hospitals and local agencies to facilitate the smooth transfer and after-care of patients/clients. Ensure due regard is given to the customs, values and spiritual beliefs of patients/clients. Ensure that nursing care is based on sound, current research, encourage and initiate nursing audit and research, assisting with the implementation of findings where appropriate. Ensure adherence to Trust and local policies, local guidelines and current legislation. Inform the Matron & Head of Nursing of changes in circumstances which MANAGERIAL/LEADERSHIP In collaboration with the Cath lab matron, identify the individual learning needs of all cath lab staff through competency-based assessment and timely personal development reviews. Ensure appropriate learning and provide timely response in relation to patient concerns or complaints Support patient and public involvement within the ward/department Develop services in conjunction with senior nurse manager initiating and implementing any service improvements. Monitor performance of staff ensuring that learning needs are identified through personal development planning/supervised practice. Monitor and manage staff sickness/absence following the Trust guidelines and liaise with the Head of Nursing as necessary. Participate in recruitment and selection of staff within the nursing team ensuring appropriate personnel procedures are implemented. Manage the area within the agreed budget and participate in resource management initiatives. Ensure compliance with the Trusts manual for Standing Financial Instructions Responsible for the implementation of risk management policies within the ward/department, including the development, implementation and monitoring of action plans to address identified risks. Liaise with relevant departments to ensure that supplies are available, and equipment is safe and in working order in accordance with Trust policies. Deputise for the Matron as requested. Professional Accountability for practice is dependent upon taking every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve knowledge. Discuss present performance/future needs with Head of Nursing Keep abreast of and participate in current/future Health service and nursing trends. Attend study days/courses as agreed with the Matron & Head of Nursing The nurse will utilise clinical supervision and peer group support EDUCATIONAL Act as an effective role model, imparting specialist knowledge to all nursing staff and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. Ensure an effective clinical learning environment is developed and maintained. Assist staff in developing clinical/professional competence by providing learning opportunities.
