An exciting position has become available for an experienced nurse to join the Mental Health Team at the Westgate Personality Disorder Treatment Service. The Westgate Unit is a Specialist Unit based within HMP Frankland that serves as a national resource for men in the prison system with Personality Disorders that require support with treatment, mental health needs and risk reduction. HMP Frankland is a male establishment within the long term high secure prison estate, a Category A prison. You will be working alongside Prison Officers, Governors, Psychologists, Therapists, Primary Healthcare, Drug and Alcohol Services, and Offender Management to support men in our care.
The Westgate Personality Disorder Treatment Service was established as a pilot project in 2004 to offer treatment to those diagnosed with Personality Disorders. The Westgate Unit is now firmly embedded in the Offender Personality Disorder pathway, offering treatment to men who require high secure prison arrangements and have the most complex of clinical presentations, in respect of Personality Disorder and risk of offending. Westgate Service aims to reduce risk of offending whilst improving mental health and well-being.
This post is advertised on a fixed term basis for maternity cover.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be grounded in nursing whilst undertaking and forming part of multi-disciplinary team assessments and formulations of those referred and undergoing treatment on the unit. The primary role of the applicant is to offer assessment and formulation of mental health and well-being and offer ongoing support and interventions in collaboration with the wider team through individual and group based interventions.
Communication skills are key to work in this multi-disciplinary, multi-agency environment. Ability to demonstrate a reflective capacity and personal and professional resilience are key.
Experience and understanding of psychologically informed interventions is helpful and a willingness to learn and develop the scope of your current practice within the context of working therapeutically with this population in essential.
Experience of working autonomously and ability to manage your own workload, maintaining the scope of your own professional knowledge and skills at all times.
Your role will involve engaging with service users accessing the service for assessment and treatment of personality disorder. As part of the mental health team, you will undertake assessment and formulation of mental health and well-being, assess suitability to engage in personality disorder treatment and through collaborative work with the service user and wider MDT team develop needs led, goal orientated care plans to support the service user during their stay on Westgate.
