We are looking for someone to join our Kent Clinical Neuropsychology Service in East Kent. We are a large team of neuropsychologists providing neuropsychological care to people from hospital to their home, across Kent. This role sits within a passionate and dynamic multi-disciplinary team, including medics, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapist and speech and language therapist providing inpatient neuro rehabilitation. The East Kent Neuro Rehabilitation Unit is based at the Kent and Canterbury Hospital, in Canterbury, East Kent. It is a 19 bedded unit which provides level 2b rehabilitation to people with acquired brain injury, spinal injuries and long term neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis.

Main duties of the job

As a senior member of the rehabilitation team you will be essential in shaping the service and ensuring excellent and compassionate care to people on the ward. The role within the inpatient team will involve specialist assessment, cognitive rehabilitation and psychological therapy to patients on the unit. You will liaise with patients and their families through family meetings and key worker provision to facilitate the successful transition to the community services. There will be lots of opportunity to provide training and consultation to other staff, both on the unit and in other services.

About us

The Kent Clinical Neuropsychology Service is one of the largest Neuropsychology Departments in the country. We provide neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation in a variety of inpatient and community settings across the county. We work with rehabilitation, mental health, neuropsychiatry and social services teams to support the needs of adults with traumatic brain injury, acquired brain injury and those with long term neurological conditions. There are lots of opportunity to gain experience from a wealth of knowledge across the department. The service has a strong rehabilitation ethos and members of the service have interests in a range of different therapeutic approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, mindfulness, Compassion Focused Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and systemic approaches. Many of our department are actively involved in teaching and research. There are ample opportunities to teach on our rolling programme of stroke workshopsfor allied health professionals and on the Salomons Clinical Psychology doctorate. We also have links with Kent University. Members of ourservice receive regular clinical, management and peer supervision and there is a commitment to ongoing training and professional development.We have supported staff to complete the QICN. There are opportunities to work in other parts of the Kent Clinical Neuropsychology Service,should you wish to extend your experience.

Job responsibilities

To participate in the provision of clinical neuropsychology services to inpatients in the East Kent Neuro Rehabilitation Unit with acquired brain injury and long-term neurological conditions.

In particular:

To identify the cognitive and psychological needs of patients on the East Kent Neuro Rehabilitation Service. Working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary team members to deliver patient centred rehabilitation.

To undertake high quality direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory and evaluative) specialist psychological interventions on the neuro rehabilitation unit, taking substantial professional responsibility and exercising autonomous judgement in professional practice .

To ensure the clinical effectiveness of own practice and service delivery by undertaking research and development activities relevant to the service area.

To participate and contribute to training and peer supervision to support professional development .

Person Specification

Essesntial Training

Essential

  • Doctorate in Clinical Psychology
  • HCPC registered
  • additional training/ CPD in neuropsychology
  • training in providing clinical supervision


Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Evidence of working with people with brain injury or neurological conditions
  • Evidence of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Four years of clinical experience since clinical qualification


Desirable

  • Experience of working in an inpatient neuro rehabilitation unit
  • Evidence of publishing or presenting clinical research


Supervision and management experience

Essential

  • Experience of providing clinical supervision
  • Experience of providing teaching
  • Experience of providing consultation


Desirable
