An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, dynamic, and inspirational Executive Director of Nursing, Quality & Safety to join the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to play a critical role in the future development and leadership of our nursing, midwifery, AHP and health care workforce to deliver outstanding care to our patients.

The post will also take on the role of Deputy Chief Executive.

The role-holder will lead the delivery and continuous improvement of risk management and quality governance and will be the executive lead for compliance with Care Quality Commission standards.

As a statutory member of the Board of Directors the Executive Director of Nursing, Quality and Safety will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective delivery of nursing and midwifery services across the Trust, and the professional leadership to these disciplines. The postholder will drive excellence in patient and family centred care ensuring we provide an excellent experience based on patient's needs.

Main duties of the job

As Deputy CEO you will play a key leadership role internally and externally offering continuity and focus to achieving our strategic goals.

The successful candidate will act as executive lead for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults as well as undertaking the role of the Trust's Director of Infection, Prevention & Control (DIPC).

As a voting member of the unitary Board of Directors the role-holder will also share corporate responsibility for:o Setting the Trust's strategic direction.o Achievement of the Trust's corporate objectives and ensuring compliance with all the Trust's statutory and regulatory responsibilities, including the delivery of national constitutional standardso Delivering high quality and safe care to patients.o Determining the policies of the Trust and monitoring their implementation.o Providing expert advice to the Board and Council of Governors in relation to nursing and midwifery.o Acting as a trustee of donated funds.o Maintaining the financial strength of the Trust and delivering the NHS triple aim.o Working effectively with colleagues, stakeholders and partners in the delivery of the Trust's vision and associated strategies.o Working closely with facilities management team and Infection Control team to ensure clinical areas are at required standard of cleanliness.

This post includes a commitment to fulfilling the requirements of the Executive Director On-Call rota.

About us

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and to Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the wider Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Its services are provided from three locations:
  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: providing 438 general and acute beds.
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: providing 56 beds as a rehabilitation, intermediate and outpatient facility.
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services which serve the local rural population.

The Trust employs over 6258 staff (headcount) which includes temporary bank staff and provides acute emergency and elective services, primary care direct access services and obstetric services to a population of approximately 407,000. This includes 357,000 residents in Chester and West Cheshire which includes Ellesmere Port and Neston as well as the Deeside area of Flintshire which has a population of approximately 50,000.

The Trust is a busy district general hospital and in 2022/2023, there were more than 503,342 patient attendances (inpatient, outpatient and diagnostic) ranging from a simple outpatient appointment to major cancer surgery. This is an increase of nearly 10,000 compared to the previous year when there were 494,387 patient attendances.

Please note applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check. Costs are deducted from salary following appointment. The cost of the DBS application is �23 (standard) or �43 (enhanced), this cost will be deducted from your salary over the first three months of employment.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Educated to Masters Level or equivilent
  • Evidence of sound intellectual ability and on-going personal development at senior management level
  • Senior level experience in an acute NHS setting with exposure in a community environment e.g. deputy chief nurse.
  • Evidence of significant experience in leading and influencing professional groups to secure change
  • Experience of delivering significant improvements in the patient experience.
