Staff Nurse Cockermouth hospital - 90 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the friendly and enthusiastic nursing team on Isel Ward at Cockermouth hospital. We are a community ward currently supporting 11 patients with various health conditions to be able to reach their baseline and optimum level and return back to their chosen environment whether this be back home or to alternative care facilities. The complexities of their care and the main focus being on complex discharge planning, multi-disciplinary working and also supporting patients with the decision-making processes.

We are looking for a band 5 staff nurse to join our cheerful, supportive team of nurses to deliver high quality, holistic care and join our well-established multi-disciplinary team.

The successful candidate should be motivated and enthusiastic about delivering holistic care to the patients and a desire to develop their knowledge and skills in discharge processes and supporting patients through education and lifestyle choices.

As a Community Hospital we are a busy unit admitting step-up patients from the community and step-down patients from the acute sector with varying health conditions we also support many patients with palliative conditions and chronic decline. The post requires individuals to work under pressure and with accuracy and effective communication and collaboration is a key aspect of this role.

Main duties of the job

The post requires a candidate that is passionate about holistic care to enable them to support patients and their families for End-of-Life Care and safe discharges. The role will also involve clinical skills that include, male and female catheterisation, venepuncture, cannulation, administration of IV medication, ECGs, wound care etc.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate and give examples of their experience within their supporting information relating to the essential criteria outlined on the job description. Training will be given to the successful candidate if required.

The hours to be offered are on rotation /these will be 12-hour shifts including weekends, bank holidays and nights and are subject to change for service need.

The Trust will provide a twelve month preceptorship period for all newly registered healthcare professionals.

The cost of the DBS must be met by the successful candidate(s) through salary deduction. DBS charges are as follows if applicable to the post:

Standard Check: �18 + Administration cost of �3.85 = �21.85. Deducted at �6.85 from 1st month salary and �5 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Enhanced Check: �38 + administration cost of �3.90 = �41.90. Deducted at �11.90 from 1st month salary and �10 deducted from salary over following 3 months.

Person Specification

Experience

Essential

  • Ability to use initiative, prioritise effectively
  • Demonstrate evidence to work as part of a team.
  • Demonstrate evidence to motivate team/peers
  • Evidence of clinical/professional development.


Desirable

  • Knowledge of changing health agenda and impact for community nursing
  • Demonstrable recent Nursing experience.

  • Post registration clinical skills (i.e. IV Cannulation and admin)
  • In some settings MIU experience will be advantageous


Qualifications

Essential

  • Level 1 registered nursing qualifications
  • Level 2 Enrolled Nurse must demonstrate equivalent experience

  • Post registration qualification in teaching/assessing (ENB 998/NST 307)
  • Post registration qualification in Acute/Chronic Disease Management
