An exciting fixed term opportunity (6 months) has arisen to join the Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) team at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. SDEC recently expanded its service and is now open from 08:00-22:00 Monday-Friday and 10:00-22:00 on weekends. We are conveniently located in close proximity to A& E and emergency x-ray on the 3rd level of the BRI.

SDEC is the provision of same day care for emergency patients who might otherwise be admitted to hospital. Our service is based on rapid assessment, diagnosis and treatment, ensuring patients receive a high level of care and are discharged home whenever safe to do so. We receive patients from a variety of pathways, including A& E, GP practices and direct referrals from the ambulance service.

As a B6 Senior Staff Nurse, the successful applicant will have opportunities to develop their leadership and clinical assessment skills, acting as Nurse in Charge and coordinating a small team. You will triage and assess patients with undifferentiated medical complaints, ensuring patients receive timely investigations and a high standard of care.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an enthusiastic nurse with a broad knowledge of medical/emergency nursing to work in an ambulatory setting. Nurses will work closely with doctors, ACPs, Physicians Associates, Clinical Site Managers and Health Care Support Workers. As a B6 senior staff nurse you will need to be proactive and show initiative, demonstrating excellent leadership and clinical skills to assess, investigate and treat patients. You will work many of your shifts as the Nurse In Charge, coordinating the care of patients, accepting referrals and managing the nursing team. Excellent communication skills are therefore essential. Experience of triage is also desirable.
