The purpose of this post is to provide specialist Occupational Therapy rehabilitation intervention for patients on Ward 3 at GDH with some possible cross over with the NRC and Orthopaedic wards. The post aims to support effective discharge planning as part of a wider MDT. You would be expected to undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitionerensuring the service delivers excellent care to patients.
Ward 3 provides rehabilitation for those Patients who have an identified rehabilitation goal but also require sub-acute medical care. The NRC is a 14 bedded sub-acute neuro-rehabilitation unit providing specialist therapy to Patients following Neurological trauma, injury or illness and ward 6 provides elective orthopaedic surgery.
The post would ideally suit an experienced Band 6 Therapist or a Band 5 wishing to progress into a more senior role. Development roles would be considered with the applicant supported to achieve work-based competencies in order to progress from Band 5 -Band 6.
There will be an expectation that you will participate in the 7 day working rota.
Main duties of the job
Perform advanced Occupational Therapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions. Use advanced clinical reasoning skills to provide a diagnosis and to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
Responsible for managing own caseload and a defined area of the service, working without direct supervision.
Supervise, educate and assess students, assistants and Band 5 staff and provide specialised advice to other health care professionals in the specific clinical area.
Undertake evidence-based audit and research projects to further develop own clinical practice and development of the service area. Make recommendations on changes to practice to the clinical lead/manager. May lead the implementation of specific changes to practice or contribute to development of service protocols.

- Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy
- Relevant accredited courses or experience to equivalent level
- HCPC registration (or to be completed within next 6 months)

- Evidence of Masters level study
