Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust are seeking a Legal Services Manager - Maternity Contract to head up one of the three hospital site based teams to manage the day to day running of the legal services team.

You will oversee the day to day management of legal claims and Inquests work and line manage the team. You will prepare for and attend Inquest hearings, providing support to trust witnesses.

The legal services manager will assist with ad hoc legal enquiries and prepare reports for service leads and divisional meetings.

You will line manage a legal officer and assistant, together forming the site based team.

The site based legal team form one of the three site teams, based at the trust's corporate hub in Eastwood. The team work both here and at home, in addition to attendance at legal hearings/meetings as required.

  • Relevant Legal Experience related to healthcare
  • Specialist in-depth knowledge of working in the legal speciality of clinical negligence and personal injury claims.
  • Knowledge and competence in Inquest case management
  • Decision making and organisational skills.
  • Excellent skills in analysing data using computer software such as Excel or related tools, identifying trends or themes.
  • Proven experience in delivering a similar role within a pressurised service delivery environment.
  • Knowledge of Redress, Duty of Candour and risk assessment/patient safety issues.
  • Ability to communicate complex and/or contentious information clearly, accurately and sensitively.
  • Highly developed oral and in written skills and ability to project these Ability to project plan. within in a large organisation.
  • Ability to work closely, and convey a professional and learned approach to staff at all levels and of all abilities.
  • Autonomous worker but ability to work in a highly motivated and small team, offering support and flexibility, whilst also able to work upon own initiative
