An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic multidisciplinary therapy team. We are looking for a 1.0 WTE band 6 Speech and Language Therapist, Part-time or Job share applicants are welcome to apply.

The vacancy is in the Community Neuro Team which includes the Early Supported Discharge (ESD) pathway for stroke, and the Supported Discharge pathway for Stroke and other neurological conditions. You will be well supported in the role with a Band 7 and Band 6 SALT working alongside you.

Dysphagia competencies are a requirement of the role and experience of managing dysphagia is essential. You will be working alongside a Specialist MDT, including: Psychologists Dieticians Physiotherapists Occupational Therapists and Nurses.

This role would be an excellent opportunity for a Band 6 therapist looking to gain experience in stroke, or as a development opportunity for an experienced Band 5 therapist. This includes opportunities for supervision and training, as you will be working alongside Rehabilitation Assistants. Our service also regularly supports students from nearby universities.

These post will attract a high cost living allowance due to the base location - 5% of basic salary subject to a minimum payment of �1,192 and a maximum payment of �2,011 per annum.

A full valid driving licence and access to a car to use regularly for business purposes is essential for community posts (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Main duties of the job

You will be joining a highly experienced team of specialist Neurological Clinicians, working towards implementing the Integrated Community Stroke Services model. You will be working within an established and dynamic MDT, with multiple opportunities for joint working. You will also have access to education and supervision via the wider Adult SALT service, including quality improvement and peer supervision opportunities.

Job responsibilities

The Community Neuro service offers the following:* Regular whole service and local team meetings* Structured in-service training and support for external courses* Multidisciplinary team working* Regular clinical supervision and annual appraisal* Access to SALT clinical leads for advice/support ENT/Head and Neck Cancer, Fluency, Dysphagia, Progressive Neurological disorders, Stroke, Dementia.

We value our staff and see clinical supervision as a priority both through senior supervision and peer support models. Annual appraisal and personal objective setting is a Trust priority.

The post-holders will work closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team to provide assessment, diagnosis and management of adults with acquired communication and swallowing needs and demonstrating effective clinical practice through continued learning, reflective practice and supervision. The post-holders will also be involved in providing support for more junior members of the team including newly qualified SLTs and SLTAs.

Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree
  • Health Professions Council licence to practise
  • Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
  • Achievement of Dysphagia competencies
  • Evidence of successful completion of specialist post graduate short courses relevant to the adult caseload
  • Membership/attendance Special Interest Groups relevant to the post


Experience

Essential

  • Experience relevant to an adult caseload
  • Management of dysphagia in acute, rehabilitation, community, OP settings
  • Able to demonstrate the application of in depth, new and ongoing learning and experience to clinical practice
  • Experience in the provision of training for others
  • Well-established knowledge of assessment tools relevant to an adult client group including: Dysphagia/Dysphasia/Dysarthria/ Dyspraxia/Dysphonia/Dysfluency/Dysgra phia/ Dyslexia/Dementia
  • Well-established knowledge of a range of relevant therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group (as above)
  • Well-established knowledge of the management of people with Stroke and neurological conditions conditions
  • Knowledge of the range and applications of communication aids
  • Knowledge of professional standards including record keeping
  • A good understanding of the roles of other professionals in acute, rehabilitation and community settings8

  • Attainment of Videofluoroscopy competencies
