The overall purpose of this role is to support the care of a group of patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease who are on biologic therapies, and manage the administration of and monitoring of these medications. The IBD Biologics Clinical Nurse Specialist role will have an overview of the management of IBD and, in time, will take on some stable patient review also.

Main duties of the job

  • Work as an independent practitioner alongside other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Accept patient advanced therapies to agreed criteria
  • Coordinate the pre-screening safety checks
  • Coordinate the appointments, alongside Day Case Unit administration team and clinic booking
  • Be available for at least 4 clinical sessions a week in the Day Case Unit or Outpatient Clinics
  • Take on weekly remote patient monitoring clinics for stable patients
  • Liaise with the gastroenterology pharmacy team
  • Work across departmental boundaries
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the advanced therapies services


About us

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the small nursing team delivering care to patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD: Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis).

This is an interesting and varied post involving face to face as well as remote care, primarily in the management of medications specialist immunological treatments. Your input into other areas of IBD patient management such as stable patient review and the weekly multidisciplinary meetings will give additional breadth to the role.

You will have support from the existing Nurse Practitioners and enrol on an IBD degree module within the 1 - 2 years to help underpin your practice. Regular in-house teaching and appropriate external conferences also support essential knowledge in this fast moving field.

Personal attributes you will need are excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail even when working under pressure. You must also be proactive and motivated to learn this specialist field to high standard and deliver high-quality, safe, evidence based and compassionate patient care, with excellent organisational skills.
