18 Month Development Post in Urgent Care Services for Registered Mental Health Nurses

Are you an ambitious, recently qualified or about to qualify final year student looking for a role which brings a real challenge every day? If you are-then please read on.

We are looking for newly registered nurses who are looking for a challenge and the opportunity to work alongside individuals and carers in a timely and compassionate person-led way. If you anticipate you will enjoy the challenge and stimulus of working under pressure and are able to remain calm in quickly changing circumstances, you will be well suited to this 18-month development post.

Main duties of the job

This exciting development post will be split into two nine-month rotations during which time you will work within the Mental Health Liaison (MHL) service at Worthing General Hospital and the Crisis Resolution and Home Treatment (CRHT) team based at Swandean, Worthing alongside a diverse range of professionals. These two services are integral to our Urgent Care Pathway and ensure people presenting to acute mental health services receive a compassionate, person- centred assessment and timely care plan whether this occurs in an acute setting such A& E or on a ward in the General Hospital or in their own home.

To protect the health and safety of our staff/workers, patients, and those attending our sites, we encourage our workforce to get fully vaccinated against COVID

About us

Successful candidates will be supported throughout the rotation in the following ways:
  • Preceptorship in placements with a bespoke personal development plan with agreed and defined learning outcomes
  • Access to training and relevant shadowing opportunities.
  • Be line-managed by the Team leader in each placement
  • Receive regular managerial supervision from their Team Leader and be given opportunities to participate in individual and group supervision.

In addition, successful candidates will enrol with the Preceptorship Academy which offers a structured and supportive learning environment to help develop the required knowledge and skills to work as a newly registered nurse. These monthly development days will run throughout the first year of the rotation, giving nurses the opportunity to reflect on their placements and discuss the clinical outcomes. The next intake will commence November 2020. It is hoped that at the end of the 18-month rotational period, nurses will have met those required competencies in each placement to be ready for a Band 6 post within the Urgent Care service.

We encourage flexible working. We know that a positive work/ life balance brings about huge health-related benefits, which has a positive impact on the care we provide. Please speak to us about flexible working, for example, home-working, part time hours, flexible start/ finish times or anything else. If it works for you and works for the role, we'll do our best to make it happen
