Biomedical Scientist (Band 5) Haematology/Blood Transfusion -
An opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Biomedical Scientists to join the dynamic and evolving team within the Haematology Department at Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.The department is looking for a HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist with IBMS Certificate of Competence (or equivalent pre-2004).
The Haematology Department is one of the largest in the UK offering a wide variety of analyses using modern equipment and processes over 3,000 samples each day. The department holds UKAS ISO15189:2012 accreditation and is an HCPC approved training laboratory. Training and development opportunities are available and all staff are encouraged actively to participate in CPD. The department is a tertiary referral site for Haemostasis & Thrombosis, Haemoglobinopathies and Immunophenotyping services.
Previous experience in NHS is essential. Please include in application form if you have passed the IBMS Certificate of Competence
Main duties of the job
In order to provide the most comprehensive experience, the successful applicants will participate in the laboratory rotation through the core sections of Automated Haematology and Coagulation in addition to the specialist area of Blood Transfusion you will be expected to work at either laboratory site (University Hospital of Wales/University Hospital Llandough) and undertake their contracted hours over a seven day period with participation in shift working following a suitable period of training within the department.
Further opportunities will be provided to rotate into specialised laboratories.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
