Join our amazing and supportive team at John Van Geest Unit based at Stamford and Rutland Hospital!

John Van Geest is a 22 single-bedded step-down ward providing further medical care to patients transferred from Peterborough City Hospital. With a mix of diagnoses and co-morbidities, our patients are often elderly and frail. You will be confident in demonstrating strong acute clinical skills and expertise in assessing and evaluating each patient to identify the right care plan.

With no doctor supervision on-site overnight, you will enjoy a high level of autonomy in making clinical decisions while developing leadership and clinical skills with the help of your team. You will demonstrate a kind and supportive approach when interacting with the team and your manager.

You will thrive in finding creative improvements to our services. You will have the confidence and determination to challenge and question senior leadership on decisions affecting service development and patient care.

We are committed to supporting your career in an environment where your skills and initiatives are valued. We will offer you opportunities for personal and professional development, as well as well-being support and guidance.

***Please note we are only able to accept applications from those with a live NMC registration or UK nursing students awaiting their PIN. We are unable to support OSCE at this time***

Main duties of the job

You will be a clinical champion and act as a role model taking a lead role in the patient's journey. You should be able to deputise for the Ward/Department Manager when required.

You will be responsible for the coordination of the clinical care of the patients by offering a secure caring environment and safe working levels with the appropriate skill mix for the shift and subsequent shifts.

By working collaboratively with all disciplines and effectively managing resources, you will ensure a high standard of care for our patients, their relatives, and carers.

You will be responsible for critical clinical decision-making in advising, delivering or referring onward as appropriate.

Professional development is key to the roles. You will facilitate the development of your own clinical practice and skills through training and education as well as your team members.

If you like to find out more about the role and organise an informal visit, we are welcoming you to contact Chloe Jamieson, Ward Manager on 01733 678216 or chloe.jamieson1@nhs.net.
