Level A9& B9 ward is a friendly Neuro surgical and ENT/MAX ward. We have 32 beds with 8 of these used for ENT and MaxFax surgical patients. We care for all types of acute and chronic conditions, including trauma patients. We also manage patients with complex airways.We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring nurse with recent surgical experience or newly qualified to join our team. We are a very supportive team and can offer a structured orientation program with the added bonus of a dedicated practice development team for the ward and are happy to give you help and guidance to develop within your career at a pace which suits you.We take pride in our work and have to be patient and caring as some of our patients are given long term diagnosis and need our support. We promote team work and looking after each other. We work closely with our Multi disciplinary and medical colleagues and we expect all team members to work alongside them.Our philosophy is to look after our patients with skill, kindness and compassion and to provide our staff with a strong team support network in which they can achieve developmental milestones and gain a variety of skills and abilities.
Main duties of the job
The postholder will work as part of a team to provide an effective, safe environment of care for individual patients, their relatives and carers.
Previous experience in a neurosurgical or surgical speciality is desirablebut not essential, experience an interest in this speciality is desirable.

Prioritises care and delegates workload and ward activities appropriately to HCAs and other staff may be required to take charge of the ward on an ad hoc basis
Effectively and professionally deals with emergency situations
Participates in the supervision, mentorship and development of students and colleagues
Adheres to local and National policies and guidelines
Ensures safe practice with regard to moving and handling, SHARPS, infection control etc

- Provides effective, safe, evidence based patient care in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Code of Conduct.
- Adheres to NMC code of conduct.
- Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates individualised evidence based patient care.
- Effectively processes admissions & transfers and plans discharges in accordance with UHSx policy and standards.
- Actively participates in promotion of education for patients, their relatives and colleagues with consideration to resources available.
- Ensures provision of all drugs as prescribed in accordance with UHSx policy, including parenteral administration.
