The service is open to flexible working through discussions with line managers and ensuring service needs are met.

The staff nurse will work under the supervision of a senior school nurse, team leader or practice facilitator . As a team member you will participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care within the boundaries of your role . You will take on leadership roles in supporting other members of staff and pre - reg students.

Main duties of the job

Working across Schools, children's centres, GP practices and Health Centres to enable children and families to adopt healthy life styles

Providing information and advice on health and well being and stressors to health and well being

Give information and advice on child health issues over the telephone.

To act upon child protection concerns and ensure liaison with the senior school nurse/health visitor or child protection named nurse.

To refer and liaise directly to appropriate agencies and services in partnership with child, young person and family.

Be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation care for delegated cases.

To deliver health promotion in schools.

To deliver medical needs training to school staff

Croydon Health Services provides integrated NHS services to care for people at home, in schools, and health clinics across the borough as well as at Croydon University Hospital and Purley War Memorial Hospital.

CUH provides more than 100 specialist services and is home to the borough's only Emergency Department and 24/7 maternity services, including a labour ward, midwifery-led birth centre and the Crocus home birthing team.

Purley War Memorial Hospital (PWMH) in the south of the borough offers outpatient care, including diagnostic services, physiotherapy and ophthalmology services run by Moorfields Eye Hospital, alongside an onsite GP surgery.

Our experienced district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons look after for people of all ages across Croydon and our Children's Hospital at Home cares for children with long-term conditions without them having to come to hospital.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Promotes and facilitates the physical, mental and emotional health of children, young people, families and groups.
  • Undertakes assessments, plans and delivers nursing interventions to individuals, appropriately reports and delegates to other team members and ensures high standards of care are maintained at all times.
  • Take responsibility for the management and supervision of the team in the absence of the senior nurse.
  • Works in partnership with all service users, members of the multidisciplinary team both internal and external to the trust and ensures continuity of care to the patient in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Understands ongoing changes within the scope of service provision in the wider community setting, for example: Education and Social Services.
  • Be aware of the needs of young people, children and their families, have knowledge of statutory and voluntary services and the school community and meeting those needs according to resources.

    Relevant knowledge/ awareness

    Essential

    • Awareness and knowledge of governance and quality issues
    • Demonstrates awareness of skill mix and areas of delegation and patient allocation
    • IT skills and awareness


    Desirable

    • Knowledge and understanding of principles / benefits of reflective practice
    • Evidence of mentoring skills
    • Demonstrates an awareness of the complex issues involved when working across organisations and disciplines


    Education and training

    Essential

    • Willingness to undertake further training and development
    • Evidence of continuing study CPD
    • Demonstrates an awareness of current issues and developments in nursing


    Desirable

    • Evidence of study at diploma or degree level or willingness to undertake training
    • Knowledge and understanding of principles / benefits of reflective practice
    • Previous experience in primary/ community nursing
