We are looking for an experienced and motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Neuro/Stroke team.

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Trust as part of the initiative to provide a 7 day Occupational Therapy service to the Hyper Acute Stroke Unit at the Royal Victoria Infirmary.

You will have considerable post-registration experience in the acute hospital setting, strong personal management and communication skills.

Excellent time management and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure are also essential requirements of this post.

A flexible approach would also be advantageous as you will be expected to work across the hyper acute stroke unit, stroke rehabilitation and the neurosurgery and neurosciences wards.

Main duties of the job

  • To carry a caseload of complex and highly complex patients within the specialty providing specialist therapy assessment and treatment, evidencing high level problem solving, reasoning skills and independence of judgement.
  • To be an active member of the inter-disciplinary team to ensure a consistent, equitable and high quality evidence based service is developed to meet the needs of patients.
  • To provide highly specialist advice, education and training relating to occupational therapy for Neuro/Stroke patients within the Trust and externally to therapy and health care professionals in secondary and primary care across the region.
  • To be responsible for own continued professional development and facilitate a learning culture within the team undertaking audit and practice development.
  • To provide day to day supervision of junior and support staff and students working in the specialist area.
  • To provide highly specialist knowledge within the Trust and externally to therapists and other health care professionals from secondary and primary care.

Job responsibilities

  • To provide a high standard of occupational therapy care to complex and highly complex patients within a specialist area evidencing high level problem solving, reasoning skills and independence of judgement.
  • The specialist practitioner is the clinical lead for the Occupational Therapy Service within the area of practice providing highly specialist knowledge within the Trust and externally to therapists and other health care professionals from secondary and primary care.

KNOWLEDGE

Essential

  • In-depth clinical knowledge of medical conditions and their effect on occupational performance
  • Highly developed understanding of OT process within acute setting.
  • In-depth knowledge of health and social care policy, risk assessment and management
  • Extensive knowledge of a range of disability equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of eligibility criteria and procedures/policies relevant to disability equipment, minor housing adaptations.
  • Highly specialist knowledge of moving and handling legislation and knowledge of current moving and handling best practice and associated equipment
  • Excellent understanding of professional ethics and their application into practice
  • Good knowledge of clinical governance
  • Evidence of CPD

  • Degree/Diploma in OT
  • State registered with Health Professions Council
  • Member of BAOT
