Children's Services is currently going through a transformational change with the merging of nursing teams across the Paediatric Emergency Department and the Children and Young People's Unit. Children's Emergency Department (ED)
Children's ED is a busy department who currently see large volumes of children every year in an area specifically dedicated to children. Children who are attending wit urgent care complaints are streamed straight to this area. Children's Clinical Decision Area (CCDA) and Short Stay
The Children's Decision Area sees children referred from GPs, children with direct access and children sent from ED requiring a further assessment. The short stay area is for children who require a prolonged period of observation but who are unlikely to need a full admission to hospital, this could include fluid challenges, spacing of inhalers and review by other specialities. Children's ED, CCDA & Short Stay are becoming one unit as of November 2023. Ward 30 (Children's Inpatient Unit)
The unit includes 35 inpatient beds, a two-bedded stabilisation area and an accessible bathroom with all the mod-cons including a bath that can be moved up and down. Each bed space also has state of the art bedside monitoring.
