An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Adult Nutrition Support nursing team at Basildon Hospital Mid South Essex NHS Trust. We are inviting a registered nurse with an interest in nutrition support to join us for 12 months for maternity cover. This could be as a fixed-term or secondment opportunity.

You will have the opportunity to gain experience and enhance knowledge and skills in the care and management of this complex patient group whilst being supported by an experienced nursing and multi-disciplinary team.

You will be an experienced registered nurse with a specific interest in nutrition support. They will join the Nutrition team which will provide an MSE-wide service. The post holder will support the Nutrition Nurse Specialists and the Lead Nurse for Nutrition, to continue to improve nutrition support practices within the clinical, specialist and generalist areas.You will be expected to act as an informed resource, and role model, whilst developing competencies as a clinical expert in the field of nutrition support.

To provide and maintain high standards of care to patients receiving nutrition support, supervised by the Nutrition Nurse Specialist

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities of the Nutrition Associate Nurse Specialist role:

• Practice clinically, within agreed scope of practice according to approved protocols or clinical guidance in contributing to the care of patients requiring or receiving nutrition support via the parenteral and/or enteral route.
• Case load management.
• Provide specialist advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals.
• Liaise with other hospital and community teams along an agreed pathway to support the delivery of patient and family centred seamless care.
• Contribute to the smooth running and ongoing development of the specialist service.
• Work as an integral member of the Nutrition Support Team and the wider MDT.
