The Pathology IT Biomedical Scientist will support the Pathology department in business as usual and project related workload.

This is a 6 month fixed term and has arisen due to the long term absence of the Pathology Systems Manager at a time of heightened demand upon the Pathology IT Team to maintain the current WinPath (V5) system and to support multiple projects including the LIMS upgrade to WinPath Enterprise (V7), POCT connectivity and Digital Pathology projects.

The post will require a unique blend of both technical and clinical knowledge, the successful candidate will need to be both technically and clinically competent in order to represent the Trust a Biomedical scientist with a history of administrator responsibilities and knowledge of WinPath V5 / 7 would be of considerable value. Experience of the LIMS upgrade project and involvement in the design stages is desirable.

The post will report to the Pathology Systems Manager, Pathology IT Senior BMS and dotted line report to the Pathology IT Implementation Specialist.

Main duties of the job

To contribute to Pathology IT work packages are maintained and completed in a timeline fashion, which include but are not limited to: Integration, Data Migration, Clinical input, System ownerships, Pathology IT systems relating to the LIMS.

To participate in the formulation of operational policies in association with the LIMS system and relating systems.

To assist the Pathology IT Implementation Specialist in key tasks related to the WinPath Enterprise project.

To help deliver training to the Pathology departments who will be using the WinPath Enterprise system.

To assist in providing accurate workload statistics and performance indicators within agreed protocols and providing regular reports for the Pathology and Laboratory Managers.

To represent the Pathology IT Department at meetings as directed.

Person Specification

Education, Qualifications & Training

Essential

  • Graduate within a life science subject
  • HCPC Registered Biomedical Scientist


Desirable

  • MSc in Biomedical Science Discipline or IBMS Specialist Portfolio or equivalent


Experience

Essential

  • Worked within a pathology discipline as a BMS for at least 2 years


Desirable

  • Contributed to IT projects in Pathology
  • Experience working as a high level LIMS user


Skills, Abilities & Knowledge

Essential

  • Working knowledge of all disciplines of Pathology, including Phlebotomy.
  • Good I.T. & Keyboard skills
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills at all levels.
  • Ability to work across disciplines and to liaise closely with counterparts


Desirable

  • Ability to write clear reports and develop IT projects.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management software packages.
