Main duties of the job
The role of the Reducing Restrictive Physical Intervention (RRPI) Instructor is a physically demanding role. With the support from Specialist advisers the post holder will be responsible for the effective delivery of all mandatory physical intervention training and its theory components.
The role will include line management responsibilities of junior members of the team.
The post holder will support the RRPI agenda in designing, implementing, and evaluating physical intervention training programmes and the delivery of said programmes.
The post holder will influence and ensure that the effective development of the accredited training is delivered to a high standard in line with the Restraint Reduction Network.
The post holder will have an excellent working knowledge of contemporary developments within the local, regional, and national agenda for the Reduction of Restrictive Physical Interventions
The postholder will support the RRPI department in representing the Trust in reducing restrictive interventions in upholding the Trust values and ethos.

This role is a Reducing Restrictive Physical Intervention (RRPI) Instructor, the job holder will be responsible for the effective delivery of all physical intervention training and its theory components Trust wide, supported by RRPI Specialist Advisors and RRPI Support Instructors. They will support the RRPI agenda in designing, implementing and evaluating physical intervention training programmes for mental health and learning disability.
With expertise in the field of restraint reduction the postholder will support the RRPI department in representing the Trust in reducing restrictive physical interventions through therapeutic methods, both internally as well as externally where appropriate, and upholding and promoting the Trusts values and ethos. The post holder will be expected to support the development of practice-based knowledge and skills in this specialist area and contribute to research and audit where required.
1.1 Care/service/function provision:
To work within the South West Yorkshire Foundation Trust RRPI Network as a Senior Instructor, supporting and overseeing the RRPI Support Instructors.
To deliver and design excellent levels of Reducing Restrictive Physical Intervention training and training packages including theory and physical elements of the courses across all care groups and sites.
To ensure training is in accordance with Trust operational and training policies and procedures.
To ensure own practice is contemporary and reflects legislation, national good practice standards and guidelines.
To deliver training that focuses on the primary prevention of violence and de-escalation before physical intervention. To teach the importance of utilising a reasonable and proportionate response to the risk posed.
Receive, interpret and communicate information where they may be barriers to acceptance and reluctance to change.
To maintain accurate records of training activity, individual performance and the reporting of significant issues to relevant managers.
To regularly monitor the training environment and all equipment in use for training to ensure its safe operational use and record and report any hazards.
To assist in maintaining and updating all resources for training and in consultation with Specialist Advisors and take appropriate action in relation to resolving any resource issues.
1.2 Working as part of a Team:
To assist the Specialist Advisors in promoting and delivering appropriate RRPI training to the Trust and local organisations as directed.
Monitor and report on incidents in relation to violence and aggression and support the Specialist Advisors to identify strategies to actively reduce the incidents through delivery of timely and targeted training programmes.
Undertake specific time-limit projects and initiatives regarding RRPI issues requested by the Specialist Advisors or Managers
To assist in promoting RRPI training to the Trust and to local organisations and to deliver appropriate RRPI training to local organisations if required.
Identify own training and development needs in consultation with the Specialist Advisors and Training manager to undertake continuous development.
To identify issues to continuously improve and ensure an efficient and effective service is delivered to staff.
To work independently within the role and problem solve as required.
Maintain effectiveness when there are frequently conflicting priorities and unpredictable work pattern.
To discuss and share best practice with other providers, developing networks and links.

To assist in the development of knowledge, ideas and working practice in RRPI.
Measure and evaluate learning outcomes to include how learning is embedded in practice.
To undertake assessments of participants on courses to ensure service user, staff and public safety.
Use effective presentation skills to present a range of theoretical concepts and physical manoeuvres related to the reduction of violence and aggression and therapeutic management, to staff at all levels and to external agencies. Be able to manage varying levels of understanding.
