The Catering Manager is a senior member of the facilities management team and will support the Head of Facilities in the delivery of a high quality catering service to all sites within the Trust

The post holder will report to Head of Facilities and will act as the catering lead for the Trust to ensure that the delivery is of a high quality standard and a cost effective catering service for all patients is provided. This may also include staff and visitor catering at various sites.

Performance monitor and quality assure the Catering contracts with external providers and ensure that standards are maintained through the internal operational staff.

The post holder will work with the divisional facilities managers, dieticians, senior clinical managers and speech and language therapist to ensure the delivery of a compliant catering service and manage the production/delivery process ensuring that all control procedures are consistently followed together with ensuring stock is controlled and costs minimised.

Main duties of the job

  • To produce reports for the Head of Facilities and Directors indicating the status of each large catering contract administered within the scope of this job description.
  • The post holder will be responsible for all aspects of catering and food safety within the Trust including planning and reporting on current service.
  • To provide a catering monthly summary for the Estates and Facilities report to provide assurance to the Trust that we are providing a compliant catering service.
  • Contribute to the production of the division's annual business plan for any catering service requirements.
  • Ensure all catering processes are followed as detailed in the catering manual.
  • Identifying opportunities to provide savings that does not affect quality standards.
  • To investigate and take appropriate follow up actions in regards to incident reports relating to catering or food safety issues.
  • Identify partnership, sponsorship and grant opportunities or other external funding sources where appropriate and applicable.
  • Ensure catering policies and procedures are implemented across all trust sites.
  • Audit the HACCP processes and records to ensure catering service is compliant.
  • Responsibility for monitoring and reporting on progress, including exception reporting on project success and lessons learnt providing a holistic approach to catering
  • To keep accurate records of all catering contracts, outcomes of their performance reviews while monitoring the contract KPI's

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Ensuring confidential and legal contractual documents are handled and stored in the appropriate manner as directed by the Head of Facilities
  • Ensuring that important literature/information is emailed or distributed throughout the department and across the estates and facilities team
  • Obtain quotes for various catering goods and services as and when required.
  • To raise purchase orders relating to all catering matters including catering contracts
  • Liaise with the Admin Team to ensure invoices are correctly receipted and credit notes issued, ensuring the department is audit ready
  • Undertake catering audits of all units twice annually and produce reports and action plans to ensure a compliant service. This should be reported to a multi-disciplinary group including Infection Control, clinical colleagues and Estates
  • To work with the Head of Sustainability in looking at how the Trust can meet its green initiatives.
  • Point of contact and lead for all EHO visits. Ensure any EHO recommendations/actions are completed and reported back.
  • Train, advise, coach food service personnel to ensure the best practice is followed and food quality and safety is maintained.
  • To be the delegated manager for catering budgets to assure the Head of Facilities and Deputy Director of Facilities that the spend is in line with budgets and raise any additional concerns at the earliest stage. To hold authorised signatory status ensuring probity and compliance with the Trusts SFIs.
  • Continually developing own role to provide a more efficient and effective service.
  • Oversee the development of policies and procedures.
  • To deliver presentations on food service ideas and initiatives.
  • Manage any CQC requirements and reviews.
