An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to join Bristol Royal Hospital for Children as a clinical nurse specialist in cystic fibrosis (CF) The Bristol Paediatric CF service is the largest Specialist Centre in the South West of England. You will join a team of two other clinical nurse specialists working within a multidisciplinary team (MDT) actively involved in clinical care, teaching and research.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic nurse to join our well established team.

The CF clinical nurse specialists are an integral part of the CF MDT and play a pivotal role in providing the day to day care pathway for patients and their families. You will be involved in all aspect of CF management within inpatient, outpatient, community and outreach services. The post involves the provision and on-going development of clinical care and scientific research for approximately 200 patients (both full and shared care). The post holder will also be expected to support the regional clinics offering expert knowledge and advice and aims to further develop and facilitate a skilled nursing provision within the clinical network.

The post holder will need to have a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide patients and staff with specialist advice to manage complex symptoms
  • To develop, improve, and promote the service ensuring the delivery of high quality, cost effective care utilising the support and guidance of senior colleagues
  • To develop and share expertise within the multidisciplinary team
  • To develop the skills to act as a resource in the care of patient's needs, ensuring an optimum level of service to patients and their carers.
  • To work closely with community and relevant network, other hospital and community staff to ensure an effective seamless service.
  • To provide effective communication systems of support for patients
  • To build up a skill set to embed patient and public involvement within the sphere of specialist nursing practice.
  • To ensure that all patients and families are aware of all treatment options, including clinical trials
  • To work as patient advocate, to help negotiate the patient journey and ensure optimum care is provided to each patient.
  • To develop links with other organisations providing support and information.
  • To adhere to infection control guidelines and procedures.

  • 1st Degree In nursing or health related subject, willing to undertake/ working towards
  • Relevant accredited post registration qualification at level 3

  • Appropriate post registration experience in nursing, speciality
