We are seeking to appoint enthusiastic and motivated Band 5 ODP/Registered Nurses to join our busy Theatre Ophthalmology team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital (Wonford).
To act primarily as a recovery person, the successful candidate will also scrub, do Anaesthetics, circulate and escort patients in Ophthalmology as well as in ENT and Plastics. As a Registered Nurse/OPD all activities provide opportunities for acting as a role model for staff including participating in their training and development. The Registered Nurse/ODP will co-ordinate the Operating Theatre/Department as designated, in support of, or on the absence of the Band 6 and 7 Senior Practitioner. The Registered Nurse/ODP will also be required to rotate on occasions to WEEU Day Case Unit in order to enhance clinical skills and help patient flow/continuity.
The post holder will work with the WEEU management team to provide a high quality, safe service for patients, relatives and carers. The post holder must be responsible and accountable for delivering care for patients both adult and children who have undergone a surgical procedure within the Day Surgery Unit this should be undertaken without direct supervision. The post holder must adhere to Trust policies and procedures and be part of the Multidisciplinary team within the Day Surgery Unit they should also participate in the training of students.

The West of England Eye Unit (WEEU) at the Royal Devon and Exeter University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has an outstanding reputation as an innovative and forward-thinking team. The service has 16 Ophthalmologists and a large Multi-disciplinary team of Optometrists, Orthoptists, ODPs, Nurse Practitioners and Ophthalmic Nurses.
The post holder should be an enthusiastic and committed professional with the passion and drive to provide the highest quality Ophthalmic care to their patients. You will work very closely with the Medical team and all Health Care Professionals and this is a fantastic opportunity for a Nurse who is dynamic, friendly and who strives to provide an excellent standard of care. Previous experience in Ophthalmology would be an advantage but not essential as full training will be given. Registered Nurses will be required to undertake the Anaesthetics course if not already completed.
The post involves working primarily in Ophthalmic theatres recovery and it is an essential part of the role the successful candidate will be able to scrub for all surgeries and assist with Anaesthetics. You will also be required to help on the Ophthalmic Day Surgery Unit. You will need to be flexible and may need to rotate within the Department or sites when needed.
