If this sounds attractive, then we are interested in hearing from you.

Come and join our well-established, supportive, and friendly team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who provide support to mental health units, community hospitals and community teams across Hampshire. We also have a small dispensary at Lymington New Forest Hospital. Our medicines management team members are passionate and dedicated to providing a service that puts medicines safety at the heart of patient care.

Hampshire has the beautiful Solent, countryside, market towns and heritage you would expect from a quintessentially English county. Those deciding to settle here enjoy an exceptional quality of life, with higher than national average temperatures and sunshine, and lower than average rainfall in which to enjoy it. There are good transport links - trains to London and the north, airports at Bournemouth and Southampton and ferries to the Isle of Wight and to the continent from Portsmouth.

Main duties of the job

The post is based at and will provide clinical pharmacist support to two community rehabilitation wards at Petersfield Community Hospital. You will join the Portsmouth and SE Hants Medicines Management team of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians and have the opportunity to work in mental health on the Older Persons Mental Health wards at Gosport War Memorial Hospital and Elmleigh Adult Mental Health Unit in Havant. Each service provides exciting development opportunities. This role is an integral part of the team, and you will be able to gain experience in other specialities such as Learning Disabilities, CAMHS, adult, LD and CAMHS forensic services and End of Life.

This post is suitable for newly qualified pharmacists and for those with a background in all spheres of pharmacy. Previous knowledge and experience in secondary care would be a distinct advantage, but are not essential, as we provide comprehensive and fully funded training. This includes the clinical pharmacy diploma, independent pharmacist prescribing, psychiatric certificate and diploma and College of Mental Health Pharmacy courses Psych 1 and 2. A Pharmacist with less experience will be able to start as a band 6 and follow our career progression pathway leading to a band 7.

Your work will focus on enhancing patient safety in medicines practice including medicines reconciliation, providing clinical professional advice to prescribers as part of a multi-disciplinary team, discharge planning, clinical audit, and teaching.
