If so, you will be interested in an exciting opportunity to work within the children in care team in Birmingham. An opportunity has arisen for a band 5 nurse to work in the Unaccompanied Asylum Seekers team. The service has been running 3 years. You will work as part of a small team to support the health needs of unaccompanied young people arriving in the country. This is an exciting challenge for someone who is compassionate about meeting the needs of these young vulnerable people.
We work in the clinic setting and, in the community, visiting Foster Homes, and Supported Accommodation.

Job responsibilities
- To keep accurate and contemporaneous electronic patients records for children and families in line with NMC requirements and the Trusts Record Keeping policies and guidelines.
- To convey information, of a complex nature, to other professionals and to clients with well developed oral communication skills. This will include negotiating, showing empathy and reassurance, to have the ability to gain co-operation of others when needed and overcome barriers to understanding.
- To make use of appropriate interpreters.
- Support nursing input into specialist clinic/nurse led clinics.
- Including:
- Administering immunisations
- Venepuncture
- Urinalysis
- Testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections
- Referral to allied services i.e. TB clinic
- Health promotion

Personal qualities
Essential
- First Level Registered Nurse
- GCSE Grade A-C in Maths & English or functional skills level 2 Maths & English or equivalent
- Relevant experience of working with children and young people
- Ability to demonstrate sound knowledge and application of up to date evidence based clinical trends and practice
- Experience of productive multi and inter- disciplinary working
- Evidence of recent professional development
- Experience and ability to demonstrate an understanding of working with children and families in a clinical and/ or community setting
- Have an understanding of the challenges faced by UASC and wish to develop own knowledge
- Ability to generate communication which is relevant, concise, accurate and legible
- Ability to demonstrate individual responsibility to health and safety
- Ability to recognise and understand equality and diversity issues
Desirable
- Nurse RSCN/Child Branch
- Evidence of working in a community setting
- Knowledge of clinical audit and its relationship to research
