Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust has created an exciting opportunity for health visitors to undertake a specialist health visitor role within our health visiting teams providing, specialist knowledge, supervision, advice and support to team members working with communities, families and individuals with additional needs and vulnerabilities. These roles will hold a caseload with capacity to deliver the expert specialist role.

The role will strengthen safeguarding knowledge and skills within the team, focussing on assessment, analysis of need, care planning and service delivery which improve public health outcomes for children and families and reduce risk of future health inequalities.

We are looking for Specialist Health Visitors to support team members by providing safeguarding supervision as a key function of the role and expert support with complex report writing, inter-agency referrals and attendance at statutory and multi-agency meetings.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a qualified health visitor who wish to develop their clinical skills while maintaining a caseload. We need individuals with inspirational and motivational behaviours, highly skilled in communication, with a strong approach to teamwork. This individual will be someone who can lead the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme while using their expertise to ensure better outcomes for our more vulnerable families. Working as a team player, your role will require excellent assessment and analysis skills and effective partnership working.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Registered Nurse/Midwife
  • BSc Hons Public Health Specialist Practitioner (Health Visiting) or equivalent
  • Education to MSc level or 3 years experience post SCPHN BSc qualification
  • NMC Registered Part 3
  • Full UK Driving Licence (and access to a car)


Desirable

  • Child Branch Registration or similar qualification
  • Mentorship Module
  • Evidence of ongoing learning and professional development


Experience

Essential

  • 3 years experience of working as a SCPHN (HV) with vulnerable children and families leading and managing care for safeguarding and complex cases using risk assessment and analysis to plan care
  • Experience of providing supervision to team members
  • Experience of leading and managing skill mix staff
  • Experience of working collaboratively with other agencies
  • Experience of working with individuals in a health promotion role
  • Experience of managing own time and diary
  • Experience of supervising and mentoring students


Desirable

  • Child Branch Registration or experience of
  • working with children
  • Previous experience of working in a community setting


Additional Criteria

Essential

  • Evidence of recent additional training to support expert role (or willingness to undertake): In-Trac training Level 4 Safeguarding module relevant iHV training multi-agency training i.e. ICON, Safe Sleep, safeguarding Court Report Writing Trauma Informed approach training Safeguarding Supervision
  • Expert knowledge of safeguarding policy and procedures and assessment and analysis of vulnerable families
  • Awareness of the process of research, understanding of evidence-based practice to promote good practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of current government policies relating to health care.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Public Health and Health Promotion
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of the impact of vulnerability and safeguarding on public health outcomes
  • Understanding of the role of clinical governance, CQC and clinical supervision maintaining/improving quality within the services provided
  • Understanding of inequality and its impact on health
  • Knowledge of the Healthy Child Programme including breastfeeding, healthy eating, smoking cessation, behaviour management, sleep and positive parenting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Child Development
