This is new post for a whole-time Specialist grade in Anaesthetics working cross-site between the University Hospitals of North Tees and Hartlepool.

As a substantive Specialist Grade you will be contracted to 10 PAs. Additional non-superannuable PAs may be offered depending on the service requirements.

The successful candidate would work on the resident on call rota in either emergency ITU or Obstetric rotas. Whilst working in the preferred speciality the successful candidate would be an independent practitioner.

Main duties of the job

As a specialist role appointment, successful candidates will be expected to be able to work autonomously providing overall responsibility for patient care and be able to contribute to the delivery of training to and supervision of other members of staff within in the department. Job plans will take into consideration the successful candidate's skills and interests although they may be expected to work in all areas, depending on individual skills, for service requirements. Participation in clinical governance, research activities and teaching are encouraged, and SPA can be allocated for this.

The post would comprise 10 sessions, 9 DCCs and 1 SPA (up to 1.5 SPA if justified). Out of hours commitments comprise a resident shift pattern with frequency 1:12. Up to 2 additional clinical sessions may also be offered to successful candidates.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Experience in independent obstetric anaesthesia practice.
  • Must have completed at least twelve years' full time post graduate training (or equivalent gained on a part time or flexible basis) with a minimum of six years in Anaesthesia in the Specialty Doctor or equivalent grade predominantly in obstetrics
